V6 Cayenne fuel consumption ?

YvesD

New member
Managed to blag myself a brand new V6 Tiptronic courtesy car for a week while the 911 is in for some work.

Must say I'm quite looking forward to the experience but the official fuel consumption figures look bad even next to the 911 !

What can I expect from 500 miles of mostly motorway and decent A road driving ?

Planning to just put the normal 95 RON syrup in it.

Regards

Yves

Both the courtesy cars i have used have returned 21-22mpg, driving like miss daisy (ie 72mph logged in on the cruise on the motorway, and gently does it elsewhere). Spirited driving will get you down to the mid teens - the V6 guzzles as fast as the V8

Its a guzzler.. I used a full tank (100 litres) once Birmingham to Blackpool, about 150 miles

Hmm I'd have to take that last post with a Pinch of salt ... [;)]

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=223089

100 Litres = 22 Gallons ... 150 miles ... about 6.8 Miles per Gallon ... Seems to be vastly at odds with the reported 20 ish every one else gets ...

Haven't owned one but have tried several (including an experience day) and have spoken to more friends that do. V6 IMHO seems quite sluggish. Our friends that have one complain about fuel consumption and running costs. Most are getting mid teens in normal suburban driving. The V8 is, not surprisingly, a better drive and doesn't seem to use a great deal more fuel in real life, or so I'm told.

Last night fuel light wasnt on but had under a quater of tank, I put ÂŁ25 in and travelled Blackpool to Bolton OPC and back (80miles) fuel light lit up on M55 and I cruised there booted it back.. tank is nearly empty..

V8's get much better consumption, from memory my 13-15 MPG was showing, will check it later as I dont like looking at it...

EDIT: consumption does seem to be getting better had about 5K on birmingham trip and 16K on clock now.. and also drives better with more miles on it..

Tone .. I never said you didn't get what you got .. I just said it is NOT what the vast majority of other V6 drivers see .. even with Spirited driving on M and A roads and in towns ...

I'd get the car checked

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]You are probably right on the button! Its has been into an OPC twice that I wont name and came back the same, mentioned it to Bolton OPC last night and they said that it needs calibrating (or something to that effect) as it drives lovely with PSM off.. so hopefully I will see a difference when I get it back..[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Guys,

You have all confirmed what I suspected, 20mpg ish is the average.

I will make it my mission to see 25mpg during my brief stewardship !

By the way, does it have isofix points in the rear for the childrens seats ?

Regards

Yves

Will be suprised if you do, porsche figures:

Urban l/ 100 km (mpg) 18.4 (15.3 mpg)
Extra urban l/ 100 km (mpg) 10.7 (26.4 mpg)

Hope its possible though!

What a perfect thread, I logged on to ask the very same question as we are having a Cayenne whilst the Boxster is in for warranty work.

I have thought about one as an eventual Boxster replacement. Our Boxster religously returns 28 ish. I want to see if we could live with a Cayenne.

Catherine,

My tenure of the Cayenne will be around 1 week and 600 miles over varying conditions.

By my own admission my driving style is smooth, non agressive and fuel efficient so if mid twenties is possible, I am confident it will happen.

Looking forward to the challenge.

Yves

Well I can report back only on a Cayenne S.

The car is due to be returned tomorrow. So far it is returning 20.2 MPG with a mixture of driving. This is Motorway, A Road, Town Driving. It also has involved quite a bit of hill climbing around Bath.

So I must say for a vehicle in excess of 2 tons and with over 300 bhp, I think it is very impressive. Also oddly, unlike our Boxster everyone stops to look at it.

Would I have one? Yes I would admit I would.

Catherine,

Did you manage to brim it with 100 litres of fuel at the pumps ?

Wow, thats a big fuel tank ! ( lots of Shell Plus points however )

Yves

There has been a fuel consumption thread before on Cayenne, I have an S love the performance and handling so with that in mind I still get 21mpg (see pic) with V power the range has leapt up to 470 miles on the screen after a fill up but then I drive it harder and get just over 400 to a tank.
Have the Boxster 987S and always get 28mpg however I drive it. I think a couple of gallons is used per tankful just maintaining the excellent sound from the exhaust.

Don't tell that to the Green Lobby !
