I always put my car between Fair & Good, I describe it as a slightly scabby 964 [8|] , although I'm not really sure how it compares to others. I guess when you clean/polish a car, you see all sorts of scratches and chips that you wouldn't necessarily see otherwise.
I ask JZM to type me up a valuation each year when I go for service (due at the weekend), but they are not really set up to value "slightly scabby" 964s. Last year I ended up having an argument when they valued it way below what it would cost to replace on the basis that "it needs a windows out repaint, an engine rebuild, and interior retrim" none of which it requires.
The reality is I keep up with the bodywork as and when required, the engine is as fit as a fiddle, it pulls like a train the, odd tiny bit of oil seepage is not worth dismantling the whole thing to sort out. I wouldn't mind getting the seats reconnollised, tbf, and some new carpets wouldn't go amiss, but everything works.
Very difficult to put an insurance valuation on it, I raised it quite a bit last year and I think it might need the same again uplift this year.

Make sure you keep your agreed value up to date guys.
I asked PCGB to value my car in January and their valuation was actually a little higher than expected. I made sure my agreed value was updated on my insurance policy.
A couple of months ago, someone posted a link to a Collecting Cars ad for a car which went for a lot more than my valuation even though the bodywork looked considerably worse than my car.
When I took my car into JZM for it's annual service last week, I asked them to do an insurance valuation for me. The figure they came up with was way more than the Club valuation. The increase was actually in excess of what I originally paid for the car, 12 years ago!
This was on the basis of what it would cost to replace it, like for like, at current market prices.
All I'm saying is, make sure your car is correctly valued, so that, should the worst happen, you would be in a position to replace it.

Replacement cost is what I would be claiming for and have with my insurer. Needs backing up with evidence, receipts, history etc. PCGB aren't really in touch imo when it comes to reading the market and following trends in valuations. Many 911 classics have increased values way above any watercooled's (halo model's excepted of course). Bet the PCGB valuers are good at Boxters though!
