VALUE OF "02" 996 TT X50 - 24,500 MILES????????

Sorry to jump in on your thread.

I am currently starting my search for a 996TT.

I have come accross a MY03 in silver with 6k miles. It has an aerokit and power kit - 450BHP (is this refered to as X50?). It seems to have a few other extras making up the £107K that the seller paid for it in Jan '03.

The car is being offered as a private sale. Any thoughts on a figure for such a car?

Thanks for any help.

The whole car buying thing does become too emotive, we boys love our toy's, if the truth be known we would all probably be better off financially with a new Boxster S, best value Porker in the range!

[8D]Also the lowest depreciating by far [;)] MY03 sold today waitng for 987 in Spring ... Gonna be a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng winter for me

450 bhp is the engine upgrade. This is called X50, since this is the option code you put down on the order form.
It (allegedly) gives you modified turbos, more efficient intercoolers, stronger gearbox/mountings, modified ECU.
Torque goes from 560-620 Nm (457lbft) and power from 420-450bhp.
Externally there seems to be bugger all to see, so aside for looking for the option code in the service book or under the bonnet, I don't know how you would tell.

MY03 is hard to tell, since on something so new, being Nov 02 or Nov 03 makes a big difference.
An 03/03 with 5K miles is going for 79,995 from the OPC.

This one has aero kit and upgrade (and I think a bit more to get to 107, since this is 15K of options).
I would guess an estimate of 20% depreciation, gives about 86K. OPC might try it a few K higher, privately it might be worth a couple less.
Based on it being around March 03, I'll go for 84 private.

What's the correct answer?
(It is of course really worth what someone will pay for it).

The car was registered in Jan '03 and I have seen the invoice for just under 108K.

The seller wants mid £80k's, I think this is OPC money and feel as a private deal £80k is nearer the mark.

Any further thoughts?

hi

Good luck with the new car

PS i wish i could buy a 996, have trouble rasing cash for a Airfix model of [>:]

The Turbo has enjoyed fabulous residuals for a good while, unfortunately there are now a lot to choose from in the second-hand market & the new 997 is looming, e.g. new 997S or S/H Turbo. As such prices are coming under pressure. Private sellers always seem to ask too much for their cars & they sit there for weeks unsold!
My advice with this 03 car, is get this weeks Sunday Times & ask a couple of the OPC buyers to value the car. An OPc will put around 10% on the car's trade price to retail it. OPC's aren't looking to stock up on Turbo's at the moment so only want them if the price is right, it 's a good time to buy one privately!
The trouble with big spec cars is they depreciate the most, so although I don't think the guy is being unreasonable, his price doesn't really reflect the current market awash with s/h Sept trade -ins!
If it was my money I'd look for a low mileage 02/52 plate with warranty & a bit more depreciation gone, like the one at the start of the thread!!!!

Thanks everyone for your comments.

The seller has been on to me all week to try to do a deal. I offered 80k max subject to all the usual checks. I think he may have found an extra couple of grand through another interested buyer.

I'll keep an eye out for another one.

Greg,

You may be lucky to get whats been quoted - perhaps closer to £63k trade ? Thats hellish depreciation on the new car [8|]
Theres one here selling from the forecourt for £68K and its lower mileage []
