Value of 3.2 Carrera

Hello All
I would just like to relate two stories I have regarding value of our 3.2 Carreras.

My wife Beryl and I went on the 3.2 WOTY to France. While we were on the Euro Shuttle a gentleman from Luxenburg came up and started talking about my Porsche, he said in had a 2009 model but his wife wanted an older air cooled model. We chatted for awhile and he went back to his car. He came back shortly and started talking about values of our cars. I had already told him all about mine and he said it would be worth €50,000 in Luxenburg. I said he could have mine for €50,000. Immediately my wife said it was not for sale and his wife said she would pay in now.

I am not sure if I have actually turned down €50,000.

After the WOTY Beryl and I have been touring around France. We stayed in a lovely hotel in Avignon. The owned of the hotel was a car fan. He said he previously had a Triumph TR6 and then a Triumph Stag so he was well into older cars.
As we were talking he said he liked my car and said it must be worth €50,000. I said it was not worth quite that much.

So this has had me thinking, what is it real value? I consider my car in good slightly above average condition, I accept that some of the body work will need attention e.g. lower corners of front windscreen etc. But it is genuine, reliable and does everthing it should. This year I increased the value on my insurance policy to £16,000.

Does any one else have any thoughts or stories about the value of 3.2 Carreras?
Regards
ALAN
ps My car is NOT for sale.

£16k is way to low in today's market, I had mine recently professionally valued by two independent both put it at £23- 24k, even at that price I'd find it hard to replace like for like

I also read somewhere recently, a piston heads article (link here), that cars have a higher value on the continent and our UK values are lagging and it gave a few examples. So it is more than likely that in Europe your car is worth a lot more.

£16k if a clean car is still way too low. As Beaky said for insurance it should reflect cost to get into a similiar car if the worst was to happen. I think your valuation Beaky is a bit low as well tbh. I would be getting that up closer to £30k.

Hello Guys
Thank you for the comments and advice on value.
I have downloaded the form to get a Club valuation and I will proceed with that.
Next January when my insurance is up for renewal I will increase the value.
Thanks again.

Much as it would be nice to be able to regard the club as the font of all knowledge regarding Porsche values, I'm sorry to say that this isn't the case - how can it be when the same person values 356's, 914's, 924's 911's and so on?
I used the service last year for my 3.2, because I thought I'd get an accurate reflection of the reality and the service is free. When I received the valuation (three or four months after I submitted the paperwork...), I was of the opinion that it had been undervalued. This was confirmed when at an event less than six months later I was offered FIFTY percent more than the club's valuation (an offer I rejected - the offer wasn't enough and anyway, the car isn't for sale).
You would be much better off contacting Porsche journalist John Glynn who is much respected amongst the Impact Bumper fraternity and who will value your car for a very reasonable fee. He is more aware of IB values than anyone AND his valuations are accepted by all insurance companies. Email him at john@johndglynn.com

I swapped a couple of messages and phone calls with John over the weekend. Really nice fella and a great handle on the market. He's posted out my quotation today - Super quick turn around!

Hi Alan,
I'm a little concerned, you may be at risk if you wait until January. The value of 3.2s, along with other models, has jumped this year. I have just reviewed my value with my insurer and upped the figure considerably mid term. A couple of weeks ago I submitted a few lines for June's Porsche Post 3.2 column, now I'm thinking it deserves a full article from a subject expert.

Is it not the Register Secretaries who do the valuations? I can't see how anyone else can have the knowledge, unless it is someone who is commercially involved in the trade.

I would also suggest that you do not wait for PCGB to do your valuation.....

My valuation from them (yes it was Steve Kevlin - Motorsport & Technical Manager - not the Register Secretary) took over 4 months and was seriously on the low side.

As others have said, if your car is an IB, then go to John Glynn; his service is rapid and I had no trouble getting an agreed value with my insurers (RH) subsequently.

Hi Guys, I submitted my valuation paperwork to the club nearly 5 weeks ago, have chased it up once, looks like I will have to be a bit more
patient. It will probably be out of date by the time I receive it.

Wrong - my experience suggests your valuation was out of date about eighteen months before you sent the paperwork in!
