Value

not too subtle at all (imo)just misguided!!unfortunately there are many porsche owners out there who would only wish they were selling out of boredom!!

just take a look at the stock of returned cars at porsche hq and realise there are guys out there whose jobs have gone and whose dream car is becoming a distant memory
sure there are those who sell because they want a change, but i suspect they are now in the minority

Dyllan is correct - majority of cars coming to market and forcing down values are not due to boredem or people changing car on a whim. Many are company cars, even more are credit backed purchases who's owners are forced to sell because of changed circumstances.

I don't agree £5k is small change for the average Porsche owner -- though I understand the point being made. OK, your typical Porsche owner will not have chosen between a Ford Focus and a 911, but many Porsche buyers are lured by relatively low running costs compared to any other supercar. You can run a Boxster for the same as a 3 series, a 911 for a little more. In good times, it's a no brainer. But £5k might be 6 months mortgage for many first time Porsche owners - and that's real money.

With Western economies subdued (UK sales down 50% in June) Porsche will adapt it's model range to attract customers from the new world wealth - the Asian blocks, Mid East and Russia. The company has such a vast cost base (starting with Mr. Wiedeking's €50m salary) it has no option but maintain high volume sales. That means constant model refreshing (facelifts), special editions and stuff that traditionalists will hate. Shortened model life will impact on residual values. So long as people recognise that, just enjoy these great cars for what they are, rather than as some bullet proof investment, all is well!

well I guess I must be insulated from the "real" world, although I work in a Global business, albeit in a niche market, I don't see the kinds of things happening that you guys seem to. I read & hear a great deal of speculation but from my perspective the only "real" issue is that the banks are not lending in the same style they used to. That in itself will have many knock on effects but personal;ly I think that's a change for the good.

now, anyone want to buy a car?.............[:D]

Seems no one is buying 997 Turbos at the moment - I've been trying to shift mine since May, price dropped £8k and I've had it sitting at an independent prestige dealer for nearly 2 months [:(]

I am in the market for one - about to buy one from the local OPC. Their price has been dropped £5k in the last 2 months but then so has the PX for my 03 996 TT. They will only give me £35k for mine in PX (Black/black manual with 40k miles and full PSH!).

Unfortunately the price of ownership!

I'm thinking of swapping over too from the 997 C2S. Just for reference what mpg do you guy's get from the manual Turbo's?

Dave

unfortunately....very few porsches are being bought with hard earned cash..most of them are leased and financed on PCP and the like.

if majority of owners actually paid in cash like the good old days...the depreciation would sting harder and they would hold out for better prices and therefore keep the value of the brand in used car markets....I agree on new markets and volume sales from porsche also hurting current owners due to their cars being older versions every 2-4 yrs, not a good feeling....but the used car market prices are essentially dictated by the sellers for this brand....they buyers are there to snap up a bargain and if they have to pay 10k over current prices...im sure they would because they want to own a porsche....just my analysis of the current conditions...

PS: im not an owner...just a guy who has been turned by a Cayman 2.7 after driving it for a week. hopefully in a couple of years i will be posting as an owner of a C4S pdk???
