Vehicle Insurance?

Would be much obliged if 3.0/3.2 owners could recommend some insurance companies for my vehicle. Just received my Lockton re-insure which has increased slightly but a second or third quote would make me feel slightly eased with my payment.

I agree with Paul - having dealt with a charlatan company on my Boxster, I can't recommend Lockton highly enough.

When I had my speedster classic line insurance always were competitive. I could never get locktons to call back so gave up with them in the end

Another vote for Lockton.
I've not had to put them to the test but have confidence in them coming up with the goods if I need to claim. They do have bells and whistle, which I like with a classic insurer. If you want cheaper you can find that out in the marketplace, but I'm staying with them. This year my premium didn't increase, just the additional Tax now imposed on Insurance that had risen from 6% to 9.5%. It is now 10% (revised from 9.5%) and may be the increase you have seen?
Lockton seem better for cover of the earlier Porsche models rather that covering more regularly used later cars. This is a shame they have this differentiation within the Club as they are the preferred supplier for PCGB.

My 3.2 is insured with Lockton but because the Boxster policy had to include 'to and from work', Lockton weren't competitive so I insured it with Admiral.
I've just moved house and retired (again) so I called both companies to inform them of the changes (moved 3 miles away to a leafy bungalow estate, no longer doing a 35 mile commute along the most notorious A-road in the south of England, the A31, and the M27). As expected, Lockton charged nothing for the update. Changing from daily use and unlimited mileage to limited mileage and use on the Boxster, I was expecting the same from Admiral - or maybe a bit of a refund.
Wrong - Admiral increased my premium AND charged me £20 administration costs! When I questioned the rationale behind this, I was informed that 'often retiree's use their cars more than when they're at work' which is, in my case, a totally absurd suggestion. Needless to say, these highway robbers won't be getting my business next year, I'll insure both cars with Lockton.

Doesn't surprise me with Admiral. They are mainstrean insurers rather than specialist underwriters of classic and sports cars so their logic is that a car spending all day in an office car park and being driven to and from at the busiest times of the day in all weathers is statstically safer than a car driven by a retired person . This is based on the fact that during the daytime the roads are full of old codgers poodling around ,more often than not, driving at 10-20 mph below the speed-limit, and to be honest, they are not wrong, and it drives me nuts!
The more specialist insurers have a different statistical model as unlike Admiral they tend not to insure thousands of old codgers poodling aroung in piddley little cars.
Makes sense if you think about it.

Try Peter Best insurance services in chelmsford mention you are a PCGB member.
The classic cars end up being insured by Hiscox not sure of spelling .

You're spot on Graham - that's a good summary of their justification for the increase. Didn't stop me voicing my point of view though...
So it'll be good-bye from me come renewal time ????

Well I use Classic Line(Norton) for both our 924S's the trackday but also road used one (see left) was £136 fully comp incl trackdays & use by our son (aged 49)-the other £128 mainly used by my Wife. Both include social, domestic & pleasure.
The BMW is with LV at £224 fully comp including class B(business )use.

As we drove both to & from our Daughter's home in Whalton ,near Morpeth this last weekend in the red one(BMW awaiting new airsprings from Deutchland),I am sorry to say,I didn't notice me driving some 10-20 mph under the limit -I was too busy trying to stay on the Military across from the M6 & avoiding the worst of the undulating road surfaces plus hoping ( only hoping, mind you )that my Darling Wife didn't realize how fast (or slowly) the old codger was driving.

Chris, surprised they didnt mention the leafy bungalow bit as thats a real no no to women in uniforms.
I reckon one should boycott insurers who waste their money on purile cringemaking adverts.
Dunno if Age Concern do a scheme for geriatric petrolheads ...im sure between us we could do a great commercial. Next project is to modify my zimmerframe to fit in my 3.2 trunk. [8|]

I'm up for it Graham - something needs to be done to dispel the Jazz driving pensioners cliches. We could start with an Age Concern track-day...

I've used Hagerty for many years and find them excellent for my 911 3.2, Jag E Type and XK 120 ( the latter two, Lockton's weren't keen to give a competitive quote on)

Yes I'm a pensioner but not of the 'center lane Jazz owner' variety!!

Anyway, the argument that pensioners are likely to have more time to do more mileage is negated if you have a limited mileage policy!

Hagerty give a limited mileage on each car, not a total combined annual mileage.

Been looking at insurance too...found Lockton ridiculous on 991 GTS and Cayenne (£3k - got it elsewhere at the time for £300!) but Lockton is under £400 on a 3.2 Carrera, which is similar to my usual broker. Admiral is £153 though...what would you do?

Check my earlier post and you'll see why, after my Boxster policy expires, I'll never darken Admiral's door again!

Unfortunately that's exactly the same experience I had with Locktons. I got fed up of waiting for them to return my call & am in my 2nd year with Classicline (Hinckley). I've found them to be very professional & competitively priced. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Hi All
I am very happy with Admiral, we have a two car policy and pay just over £400 a year for both cars. Both cars have protected no claim bonus and are coved when we go aboard as we do more than twice a year. I Admiral mainly on price being a "retired" person. However, I am also a Consultant as are most ex-Civil Servants who retire early. So I have my Porsche 911 3.2 insured on a standard police with business use. We do about 7000 miles a year, only 1500 miles are for business, if I am going out on business and it is a nice day I will take the Porsche. The other car is an Audi A, 13 plate.
Admiral provide an excellent service at an acceptable price. Lockertons and Footman James wanted too much money or limitations that I did not want. If I remember right Footman James would not give me business use cover.
I don't think Admiral will do track day cover but my days tearing around racing or test tracks are behind me now. I am more then happy at 80 mph or occasionally 90 mph so don't get stuck behind me.
You may be interested to learn that Admirals preferred repairer for Porsches in the Derby area is Chartwells. An excellent establishment well known to all of us.
Regards
ALAN
