Hi Guys,

Thanks for letting me join your fantastic forum :)

Well.....I have my test drive booked in a 2.7 '981' and have my invite to the launch night :) I've pretty much done everything apart from order one :)

I'm currently in a BMW 135 Coupe which I have really enjoyed but sadly I wave goodbye to her this December.

But I'm so excited at the prospect of ordering my first Porsche :-D

I know exactly what I want in colour/spec - so fingers crossed !

Have a great weekend all

Hi Darren, Welcome to the forum and - hopefully - to Cayman ownership. Enjoy the launch night and the test drive too. Let us know how you get on. Jeff

Cheers Jeff and thanks for the warm welcome :) Will do - Launch night is the 15th and the following week is my test drive [:D] Darren

Enjoy picking through the options, I did. Only problem was settling on final list without going crazy. You will have fun on test drive, it is supposed to be an excellent car and will have you wanting one.

Thanks mate :) i went for : White 20'' Wheels - satin finish Black Leather White Dials Zenons Sports Exhaust Manual Sat Nav Folding Mirrors Crest on Seat head bolsters [:)]

That makes 3 out of 3 of us on tjhis forum ordering Cayman 981s in white paintwork.[:D]

And with similar options to yours Chris. Is there a white-body/black-interior conspiracy here? Jeff

Jeff, Seems to be so, the only other key difference is mine is the only "S" and with TPMS and Cruise. Did you see over on Planet 9 that US cars are specced with TPMS, Mobile Phone prep and on the S, Sound Upgrade package is all in the basic price which is much lower than ours, of course anyway. Thats worth over 1k of our diminishing Ă‚ÂŁĂ‚ÂŁĂ‚ÂŁĂ‚ÂŁ's (down to 1.50 today)[&:]

I've gone for the silver 20 in Carrera 2s, didn't care for the rough finish of the satins, have you guys seen them close-up, llok like sprayed with 60s underseal but then I am an old ...t?[;)]

Ha, I am very OCD regarding my car. Will check this with OPC as do not want rough finish. BTW same wheels as mine though, are all these new 981 Caymans going to be clones, no wonder I was told good spec, same as everyone else! But think I am only one to go for red seat belts to brighten all that black interior Peter

Yes I'd seen that Chris, and I note that in the US certain options are "packaged" together, presumably at a slightly lower cost than if they're purchased separately. Quite a good idea, but I've not heard of the UK PCs following suit - obviously they're making enough money fleecing us all by charging the full price..! Jeff

They do feel like they look - but with the light body colour they do look very cool [8D]

Have you thought about cleaning them, I would get sore hands trying to make them look clean? I see over on the Cayenne side Alex has just taken delivery of a white Diesel S with crested wheels today, this is the trend.[;)]

Knowing how my shiny wheels get brake dust sticking to them I'd not go for anything but the most slippery shiny finish they can do to wheels, in fact it's best to keep them polished to cut this down and there is some wheel wax on the market just for that purpose. Out of 12 cars joining the register since Christmas 4 are white. Natural for Porsche almost as much as Rosso Red for a Ferrari![:D] TPMS is to become a standard fitment on all new cars in a year or two so Porsche really ought to fit it at no cost before they are forced to. Before the Gen 2 production was stopped they did packages such as the Comfort package in which a good set of options were offered at a reduced price, it really ought to be offered at all times. As I remember it the comfort package included, Climate Control, Bi Xenon lights with headlamp washers, heated seats, auto wipers/self dimming mirrors and crests in headrests which is quite a good list of options for a UK car.[;)]

Ah, but if the wheels are brake dust coloured (aka satin platinum finish) you won't need to clean them Kevan..! As you say, some type of TPMS will be a legal requirement on all new European passenger cars by November 2014 and, with luck, Porsche may start fitting it to all MY 2014 cars. I think that the US has had such legislation since 2008. The Comfort package sounds good. How about a Handling package where you could select 3 out of: 20" wheels, PASM, PVT/LSD, Sport Chrono and Sports Exhaust at a discounted price? Jeff

Jeff, have you every tried to remove the built up brake dust crud from even a shiny wheel? It really does stick and even wire wool won't do it, which makes me wonder about a silicone coating?? ( Don't get it on the tyres!!! [][:-][8|] ) I love the colour and texture but foresee the problems. A Sport or handling package would be good and reminiscent of the sports chassis option packages which were available on the 944 and earlier 911's. How about asking about these things at the launches this week? Responses to be posted on this thread... A Comfort Package and a Sports Handling package at a discount??? Additional options such as radiator grilles???[:D]

Yes, I know where you're coming from there Kevan ref wheels. Like yourself, probably, I use a specialised wheel wax which makes it easier to remove brake dust.....but it still doesn't stop it accumulating in the first place..! Fortunatey silver does tend to mask the film build-up but when you wash the wheels you then realise how filty they were. Now that I have the benefit of more than 3 years Cayman ownership, I was thinking of collaring one of the salesman and bending his ear on the topics you've mentioned (and full factory 3-year warranties too?), but I'm not holding my breath in anticipation of anything happening in that respect. Perhaps a proper letter (yes, on paper!) to the PC Principal would be more appropriate. Maybe a coordinated effort from those on the forum to all PC Principals would have more impact; after all, we cover the whole country. Jeff

Gents, What is the special wheel wax that you both use? Yes, good idea to seek an opportunity to provide feedback, but I dont think the Cayman launch is the best place for it, they are too interesed in meeting all the (ex-911[;)]) punters. #1 on my list would be why do we have to pay extra for TPMS if its going to be a legal requirement in EU next year, I bet you they add it in the basic in 2014 (just in time for your 981 order, Jeff[;)]) #3 Mobile phone prep you get that in a Fabia / Fiesta these days #4 Sound Upgrade Package is included on the on the S in the US. Does this mean the basic sound system is specially low cost system for the UK mkt? #2 why is the third year warranty cost not for the full factory cover, infact as its an insurance product so you can get it removed from the deal as I did? Chris
