Vibration at idle

Wills

New member

Hi

I have tried to search on this but found nothing so hopefully someone can help

At a standing idle I get vibration/rumbling through the drivers seat and if I look across to the passenger seat I can see it vibrating too, the upper area of the door card vibrates as well...

Is this a "feature" of the car or should I get it looked at?

Neil

Hi Neil. It's not a feature of my car and haven't heard of anyone else having that as an option! Presumably you haven't done that many miles yet? I would get it looked at.

Whilst Yes I'd get it looked at, its worth noting the flat 6 is nowhere near as smooth as your previous power plant....

As per the others comments the car needs to be looked at urgently.

The 911 flat six does have a bit of a mutley tendency though - its like its muttering under its breath at idle.

The more highly tuned cars (GT2/3, TT) can rock slightly at idle with a low fuel load but thats the whole car rather than vibration through the seat

Are the revs at idle steady or do they 'hunt'?
Does the car misfire - are you losing sudden power as you drive, randomly?
Has this suddenly begun to happen or it's always been like this?
Have you had the underside of the car jet washed recently?

Hmmm well the needle is fairly steady slight movement but very slight.
Not that I've noticed - No naturally the step at say 4k is pronounced as the vario cam comes in but apart from that no.
Its always thrumbed/vibrated at Idle (its only 2 weeks old) with 1300 miles.
I do use a jet wash but only for the sills I haven't actually pointed the jet under the car.

That discounts the usual suspects.
Seeing as it's only 2 weeks old and under warranty I'd just take it to Porsche, it shouldn't vibrate like that.

Does anyone know if the Gen 2 has the same arrangement and thus unreliability in the coil department as the Gen 1?

Nearly all manufacturers do, so I'd not expect to see any difference with the Gen2

I faulty coil pack could cause an imbalance but I'd expect it to be much more prominent on load than idle..

Well, well, having just got in from a drive I'm sitting there at idle thinking about this thread and there is a small about of vibration through the seats which, tbh, I haven't really paid any attention to before - it's what they do. It goes as soon as you give it any revs so I think Neil it may well be a feature of the car after all. I don't recall the Gen 1 doing it as much, maybe it's something to do with the DFI. Still worth getting it checked to be on the safe side.

Ah! I see! I curbed both my rear wheels today at that damn silly bridge in the centre of Marlow, if anyone knows it.

One piece of advice would be to avoid that bridge at all costs, the entrance is so narrow. I got the front of the car though and thought oh good I'm ok but I forgot the rear is wider than the front! []

The little suspension bridge, eh! I know it well - have some good friends in Marlow. That's a b***er though. Are they badly damaged?

Not badly damaged but scuffed (really annoyed at myself!) nevermind its only a car I guess.....[:D]
