Vibration at speed

Kenny

Cheers for the tyres info - I'm on std 17" so same as yours - I'll check them out for my fronts when doing the rounds.

Laura - Thanks for the tip, I've been to Malton a couple of times and their set up is very impressive isn't it. Not had any repairs or servicing done their though so will have a look.

Interesting to note that Strasse in Leeds are advertising '4 wheel alignment' in their website so perhaps they have a 'thingy' !

Kenny,

Just read the thread.

On one of your posts you talk about the rear being jittery on long bends. This could have more to do with worn bushes than balancing, or possibly a mixture of both.

Would be worthwhile getting your car on a ramp and checking the bushes before spending money on other areas.

Thanks William - looks like whatever I do could be expensive. Things better now since new tyres worn in so might wait a while.

Thanks Maurice for all the info a few messages back ... I can now have a more knowledgeable discussion on kinematic toe when I get the geometry done. Thanks also for pointing out that I need to discuss tie-rods rather than control arms!! The car clocked up 55k miles last weekend, so this ties in quite well with your mileage quote.

I am on the track at Bedford this weekend; then might try going sideways at MIRA with Don Palmer; and then might get some new tyres before the tie-rod change and complete geometry check ... just in time for the winter. That's the plan anyway !

I presume tie-rods have not been known to break/sheer off ?...!

Having just returned from the South of France, having covered over 2,000 miles I did experience vibrations through the steering wheel at varying speeds. These vibrations came and went at different speed, and I found that on some road surfaces the vibration was there when on other road surfaces AT THE SAME SPEED the vibrations were not there.I would put it down to the sensitivity of the Porsche steering 'feed back'and not down to any problems, particulary if you have new tyres had them balanced and haven't notic[FONT=Arial"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]ed any uneven wear on the tyres.
