Has anyone experienced a situation whereby the car and starting wheel shudder under hard acceleration? It seem worst between 50 & 70ish. The car is a second generation turbo.

Sounds like a misfire
Spark plug or coil pack going?

Worth plugging a code reader in to see if its thrown any codes

Hi Patrick,

Firstly, I’d make sure that your wheels are properly balanced - the front in particular - and that there’s are no defects in the tyre sidewalls or treads. If that doesn’t cure the problem, ensure that there’s no play in the steering and front suspension assembly, the driveshafts included.

Hi Jeff

Thank you for the suggestion, I know that the wheels are fine as I recently had the balance checked when I swapped to my winter wheel & tyres. I think a trip to the dealer is called for...

Understood Patrick. Before hitting your dealer, just give the tyres a thorough examination to check that they’re A1, with no bulges or splits. With all these potholes around it’s very easy to damage them without realising it.

As above Patrick, if the vibration gets worse when accelerating through the 50-70mph range rather than on a balanced throttle - i.e. lifting the throttle slightly - it would indicate that the problem most likely is due to a transmission/driveshaft issue. However, these types of problems normally get worse progressively unless some component has failed suddenly, and you haven’t indicated whether or not this has been the case.
