Tref remembered that I have a model of my 951 and so to show willing and join in the fun here's a photo of it. This was taken many years ago and was never finished, today it needs a little TLC after one of my grandchildren decided to go 'vroom, vroom' with it.. IIRC it's a Hasegawa 1/24 kit, it's converted to RHD and when I left it I was busy making new parts for the engine. If I wasn't so busy with my other model I could be tempted to engineer a much larger scale version, you only have one life though and alas I think mine is already fully booked...

No clues or original photo of what you are planning to do Geoff? I am trying to think now what it could be? Mind you, it has given me a couple of ideas - a nice compact model would be any of the years we looked after the stand at Goodwood Festival of Speed - only ever three or four cars required, and a gazebo should be easy enough to model!Geoff997 said:I have now decided on my theme. Well I was really happy, and now totally confused! I found decals are available for the 962 (which I still haven't ordered!) but those that I have found, for 1988, seem to be for a different tail to the form I towed it in... So at the moment I am spending more time on research than I am on modelling!

Oh...a lot Tref, don't forget my engine bay is a long way from standard so basically just mimicing the full size. Custom intake and boost pipes, MAF unit etc...lots of small details....just me doing my usual and going OTT...

You towed it with the long (Le Mans) tail, but the reality is that there is little difference in length between long and short tails on a 962, so short tail model / decals might suffice if that's all you can findtref said:Well I was really happy, and now totally confused! I should have just asked you in the first place! I concluded it was long-tail, but also believed it was wearing the livery in which it last raced in '88. The decals I find are for a rear spoiler not integrated and missing a Kenwood logo (so a long way out)... If I can buy it off the shelf, I can live with a few anomalies...if I am going to the trouble of building it, I'd rather try and get it right!

Talking of the 962, I wonder how many realise that Porsche planned to launch the 944 turbo with a PDK gearbox based on the experiences gained with the 962...a number of cars were built and road tested with this box...Reports stated that the car was lightning quick loosing no boost during each gear change....alas reliability was an issue and so the PDK was dropped, or so reports state..IIRC Porsche didn't try again with a road car with PDK until 2005? I stand to be corrected on that one.

Seen the 4WD 944 with a rear mounted flat inline 4 1600 engine (in the Porsche Museum), but not a PDK fitted one. However it would fit with something I heard in a talk by Derek Bell once. He was saying racers wanted to race, but engineers insisted on trying new stuff on the race cars. In one instance there was a chance of a race win, but an insistance of trying new fangled PDK and ABS. Eventually it was agreed to test one or the other, but not both. The drivers sellected PDK because they had some experience of it. Turns out the race was wet and had they had made the wrong choice. It fits that in the 944s lifespan ABS was added, but PDK wasn't.

Indeed Pete - after seeing the car in the flesh, it was from that article I determined what exactly I had seen! (Enginewise).
Well I have ordered some stickers for the 962. Unfortunately to get what I want I have ended up buying two sets, one lot coming from Japan, the other from America... and they won't be here until August! What was the deadline again?
Amazingly, there is a model kit for a Brian James Trailer... Of course it is the wrong trailer, so back to the drawing board on that one.
