WANTED: 944 Turbo 250bhp or Turbo SE edition

Thanks Francis - mileage is a bit on the high side for me I am afraid...low 100s is what I am looking for. Also ideally a 250 bhp series 2 Turbo. Good luck with your sale though - is there lots of interest in the model at the moment?

ZCACOGP - sorry, I might be a bit ambiguous in the title - I definitely want it to be a Turbo, and either a series 2 turbo (250 bhp) or the Turbo S/SE (they seem to be the same car but I am not sure...)

OK, you want a 250bhp turbo. Not an S2. The S2 is a superior machine and not to be confused with the turbos. ('S2' does NOT indicate 'Series 2', although this confuses many). You may want to go back and amend your previous posts to remove the confusion. Oli.

Hi all - just joining the forum and looking for the above. Off to have snoop around the forum now (looks a good place to be).

Anyone interested in selling a 944 Turbo, or anyone with any information about the cars on the market at the moment, please do let me know!

The ones I have seen online are a dark red SE at 10k but am not too keen on the addendum's, a white turbo in Hoddeston, a black on in Yorkshire that look nice enough. Ranging from 6k to 10k price points and various mileages.

ahh the S2 vs turbo debate...:).......leaving that aside don't be too worried about mileage, it's not as important as it may be on lesser machines. What is important is service history, be it OPC or indie or indeed self maintained, this is far more important and i would go so far as to say that a very low mileage car may be more trouble than it's worth, Porsche's like to be driven and like to be driven hard. Also don't discount the earlier models, now I know i'm going to get shot down by some here but IMHO they are far better cars, better built with better components and in time if not all ready will be the cars most sort after, they are also more able to take serious modifications if that's what you intend. Do a little research to best decide which car is best suited for you and when you do go to look at a car try to take someone along with you who knows these cars well, i'm sure that members of this forum if close to you will be more than happy to help with this. In some respect 944's bodywork is more important than mechanical's, it certainly is when cost is involved, the cost of replacement body panels can be very high, be sure to check for rust which i'd say effects all cars of this age now even though they are fully galvanised. Take a close look at sills, especially the inner sill around the torsion bar supports, rotten lower wing sections are not such a big deal as the inner sills although naturally should be avoided if possible. A car with history of having this work done and which is done properly would be a good car to buy, don't be put of if a car has had this work done, as i said all will be showing signs of rust in some area's now. good luck in your search and welcome to the forum.. Pete

I once rang YCP about a 968 they had advertised as 'ex Porsche Museum' , the guy told me it was previously owned by Porsche and used as a show car, I managed to trace the cars history and discovered it was owned by a Porsche OPC in Scotland, can't remember which, anyway I called them and asked if they had history on the car. They were very forthcoming, it was simply a 968 that they used to service, took it in on px and it was registered in their name as they used it as a loan car for customers..... so much for a museum piece. I dug a bit deeper, try Googling them. Cheers, Paul

Looks nice in the pics, but then again most of them do. Is it my imagination or is the rear turbo badge smaller than usual?

Not your imagination wonder why the OP wants a 250? Having owned & driven both I would go for the best I could find and not let the late car sway the decision. 220 Pro's are nicer drive, more supple behaviour on road, less grip - more adjustable, no ABS, nicer looking deep offset wheels, lighter unsprung weight with smaller wheels & brakes, forged rods, less rusty (all the reasons i bought an '85 car to restore) 250 Pro's are more ECU tuning options, ABS (archaic Control unit - but), modestly firm suspension - which can be harsh, more grip - less adjustable, more rust prone? (little things that I'm aware of since my last 220) Both have about 75% of their potential on tap if not fitted with a Promax L2 George 944t

Very helpful thanks. Re my link to the Baltic blue 250 on PH is that car too cheap after that much expense on cosmetics (claimed)?

I think this car knocked around on e bay for a while, I seem to remember one with an exhaust like that and the turbo badge looks a bit small :-S Look at as many as you can but don't buy the first one you see. I looked at one at a specialist in wakefield that was Baltic blue which turned out to be a complete dog.
