Wanted - 944 Turbo S (Silver Rose)

I am currently in the process of recommissioning and then selling one of my MK2 Escort RS2000's that has been off the road for 9 years.

The hope is to replace this with a 944 Turbo S.

This is a tentative request at the minute as it may 4-6 weeks before I am in a position to buy a car, but if anyone out there is thinking of selling their Turbo S then please get in touch by PM, on this thread or by email to martin@mrm-business.co.uk

I am ideally looking for a low mileage unmodified car with a full service history and obviously in excellent condition [:)]

I will pay a top price for the right car if it fits my requirements. I'm not sure how many (if any at all) were made in Red but this would be a preferred colour choice (the wife wants a Red 944 [:-] )
Ultimately it will be bought on condition/mileage/history

Thanks [:D]

A few in red and black, but not from the first flush. Alasdair has one which is in need of work. Id suggest this, because virtually all need the same work so its better to spend £2,000 than £8,000 only to then pay for the remedial work required.

Thanks for the info, but this isn't what I am looking for.

I'm looking for a low mileage car and will pay 5 figures for the right car.

There are cars out there (hopefully) that will be what I am looking for and I am in no rush to buy the first that is offered to me.

I understand what youre looking for Martin, but I believe that every 1988 944 that hasnt had expensive work on its sills will need it soon and many cars which have had work will need more, better work. In light of this Id be extremely wary about buying anything in your projected price range without an inordinate amount of investigation.

The car that youre looking for may exist, but I suspect that most cars arent anyhting like a sound as their vendors will have you believe (whether they realise or not).

I've just been told about a 1 owner 47,000 mile car that is original and could fit my bill [:)]

Will keep you updated on my progress, but please keep information any other cars coming my way [;)]

You are turning into Porsche Centre Gretna [;)]

Good move as the old Ford scene has had it's day.

Paul

I hope that its as good as it sounds. Id be only too happy to be proved wrong about the state of the cars. A one owner garaged car may well still be good underneath.

There are cars that have been well-stored, excessively serviced and maintained, and are still in near-showroom condition. Most, however, aren't. I guess it's a hard decision between buying one of the "museum" cars, or getting a sound one and restoring it. What you'll never replace is genuine low miles and owners, if that's what you want, and originality.

I agree with Simon that you're arguably better with a "project", and a fairly bottomless budget, than an "average" 944. As I found with mine; it was in far better condition than the Lux, but after three years it was in worse shape body-wise, and had swallowed up £000s in mechanical work. It still needs a HG, suspension overhaul, I could go on...[&o]

In hindsight, spending £5K on restoring the Lux would have given me a near-perfect car. Including the cost to buy, the S2 has cost over £10K and is not nearly perfect. Looking at that cost, you start to wonder if buying a £15K or more 944 with the ultimate in collectibility is actually a more sensible route to go down!

Colour is an interesting one though. Whilst I'm not a fan of the burgundy or plaid interiors in any cars, the turbo S will always be known as the Siver Rose. If it's a low-miles concourse car you're after, might Rose Silver with the full-on interior be the only one to go for? [8|]

Paul Stephens had a 21k late Turbo for sale for a while at £17995 - I think it's sold now. Not an S i know but must have been close to many of your other requirements. Did you consider this car during your previous search?

It was some time last year but one of the mechanics at Jaz in Wembley was selling his silver rose. Sadly, I don't remember the chaps name. May be worth sending an email to Steve/Claire at Jaz?

Kin hell Martin, you got the bug bad fella, this one is a tall order mind you, only 47 left and most are Silberosse colour (which i love) there was a red one in Portsmouth a few years ago which i was set to go and see before i managed to but F66 KEC back [:D]

I know of a lovely one in West Cumbria................actually about 4 meters away from me......in my garage, not for sale though and would probably not tick your boxes as it is not standard factory, it is as i want it [;)]

As Franchy hints, you might find one of the very few surviving Silver Rose cars for sale that has not been used up or left out in the rain. You might also find a good late 250 hp 944 Turbo in red.

But to find an actual Turbo S, in red, that's all mint and original, *and* for sale... well... I strongly suspect that it's arithmetically impossible. A Silver Rose car should be possible if you are prepared to wait and to bid high. A later 250 hp Turbo in red, that should be possible too.

I think the Silver Rose paint and interior trim makes that car extra special and more collectable.

Didn't gmund sell a really nice one last year - advertised at £20K IIRC

eporsch have one but probably doesn't meet your criteria on miles. http://www.eporsch.co.uk/944TSilverRose.htm
The colour scheme is probably an acquired taste. Not sure that I'd have ordered a car with that colour scheme when new. Suppose it's like the Panamera, horrific to look at but a superb car to drive or be a passenger in.

I spoke to someone tonight who has a genuine Guards Red Turbo S, I enquired about the car a few months ago, awaiting further info tomorrow.

I think it's a bit of a project car though.

Cheers, Paul

Yes considered it but thought the one I bought was a better car [:)]
