Wanted: 964

Porsche993rs

New member
Hi after owning several 993, lotus, boxster s ownership I'm looking to get back into a well looked after 964. I know they are getting hard to find and values seem to be all over the place. However if you have a good well kept example preferably manual coupe I have cash waiting for the right car. Please pm me if your thinking of selling.. Thank you..

Don't get sucked into paying too much.

Not just 964s, the market in general has suddenly gone very silly and prices are all over the place. Keen buyers should keep a steady nerve and wait for the right car at the right price, IMO.

Hi Sub, I'm sure we met at the training day at Pro-drive a few years ago. Here's one that's on ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911-964-Carrera-2-Manual-RHD-Coupe-1992-K-Reg-Cups-Teardrops-Lowered-/331208364602?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4d1d8e923a&clk_rvr_id=636788485053

Work to be done it but that's true for most 964s.

Hi All many thanks for the replies, Steve mice to hear from you again its been a long time hope your well.
That C2 on ebay is a V car so that puts me off it looks like its had a smack from the back but with no documentation on the extent of the damage would you risk it ..? anyway yours looks nice sell it to me...?

Hi Mate, I thought it was worth posting up just to show an example of prices these days. To me, this one would be a candidate for turning into a track car. Doing that reduces the 'listed' stigma when selling on the future. However, it was not so long ago that such cars could be picked up for less than £15K making the project economical. Which is not the case now. If it's a road car that your after, I wouldn't choose this one.

p.s. I can't see myself selling mine....it's pretty much part of the family now. [:D]

Yes agree with your view..track car contender not a daily driver. there is a wide body cab going at rpm specialist cars on a POA. Just rang him up and he wants 45k.. ouch

The C4 that Andrew posted a link to ( DDK ) looks worth following up if not already gone. Less than 20k is a good price for a buyer , plus the car has good paint so mates will be impressed ( shiny = good ) . Otherwise if you want a C2 and are particular then get out at least 25k and even beyond 30 k - the market has woken up to the desirability of these cars.

Here's mine , its a track car , cage is good for ruling out shopping trips [;)]

its a nice car and a great bloke to deal with might go and take a look at it this weekend. Are C4's that more of a impure driving experience I know they are heavier but unless your track driving do you really notice it

Definitely worth trying a C4 to see what you think. That could save you quite few £££ compared to an equivalent condition C2.

Just don't try a C2 afterwards. [;)]

The one coming up at Eporsche belonged to a good mate of mine it has had a huge amount of money lavished on it over the last 3 years and has been looked after by Parr Motorsports also had a full glass out paint job and venture sheild it also has KW V3s and some other nice stuff on it

Worth a look

This is quite worrying, there are so few for sale that I really have no idea what my car is worth. I have an agreed value at £20K and it's a fairly bog standard C2 Coupe that still need a few jobs doing, but full history etc. I really must get a club valuation done, otherwise I'm tempting fate.

My tuppence worth -

C2 manual with less than 100k miles manual - circa £30k upwards if body etc all good,
C2 manual with 120k miles and above - probably £20 to £30k depending on condition and what work is documented on engine
C4's I think are probably 10 percent less than an identical condition C2

Mileage is still a big motivator on price, next is condition of body, interior colour/body colour and of course service history

Market is on the up and I can see C2 manuals with low ish mileage, circa less than 80k heading towards £40k,

As they increase in price it pulls targas and cabs along with them to an extent.

The recent increase in 3.2's etc will only push the 964s price north as well as the 964's retain the original 911 iconic shape but with a more comfortable car.

There are just so few cars available for sale and very few with low miles and collectors will plump for C2 manuals as they are the closest to an RS so as the RS rockets to mad money the next closest car is a C2 manual.

I have a mint 76k mile C2 manual in white that I have been offered £28k for last year by a dealer, if i was to sell i would expect to be returning £35k at present and that is probably what I will ask the club to value it at. (its presently insured for £25k)

I also have a C4 manual thats getting restored with 110k odd miles in polar silver and i reckon i will ask to have it valued at £25k when finished.

I think they will settle around these values for a few years and dont see them moving much further in the short/medium term but dont see them dropping any either.

I havent seen any sub £20k cars unless they are rusty and have high mileage or Cat C/D for some time.

regards
Scott.

C2 manuals over 30k with 100k miles I think the market has gone the way of house prices meaning you know its not quite right with the worrying feeling that your buying at the top of the market..
anyway I guess supply demand dictates.. i wasnt thinking of spending that kind of money for one.. i would rather look at a boxster spyder or cayman R

Interestingly, I've been following the 964/993 market very closely just recently, on behalf of a friend and former Club member who is looking for a really nice usable/collectable late air-cooled 911.

I owned 2x 964 and 2x 993 (Coupes and Cabs), bought new in the 1990s, so it's fascinating to revisit them some 20 years later, from a purely objective perspective.

IMO prices are all over the place at the moment, but there are actually quite a lot of cars around, and of very variable quality. What I have detected is:

- Pecking order is Coupe, then Cab, then Targa
- Originality is key (unless something very special like the Mint or Maritime RS reps)
- C2 over C4 (but less critical with 993s)
- Manual over Tiptronic
- Colour is important, but personal. Very light interiors less popular
- History is obviously crucial (some cars went through a period of neglect when values fell)
- Condition has a huge bearing on price. Some are quite scruffy at close scrutiny and Cabs seem to be rougher round the edges than Coupes
- Mileage is the biggest single price influence. There is a stigma about 100,000+ and it seems to also effect cars getting close to that figure, as buyers realise that, with a bit of use they will be in that territory. Low miles (under 50-60k) commands a premium
- Lot of conjecture about prices - but the truth is no one knows - this isn't an exclusive market. Most buyers are enthusiasts looking for a usable car that's sensible value.

Just my impartial observations
