I'm still looking for a private sale Cayman 3.4 S PDK, either 981 or 987.2
  • It must have a PDK gearbox.
  • Ideally the mileage should be up to about 45k.
  • Price wise I'm thinking £35-37k for a 981 'S', and around £25k for a 987.2 'S'.
  • Other essential options I want are
    • Satnav
    • Parking sensors
    • Sport, Sports Chrono+,
    • Cruise,
    • Climate Control,
    • PASM
  • I'm not at all keen on black cars but will consider other colours.
  • The car should have a good service history, and ideally an extended Porsche warranty would be nice or a recent report to show it hasn't been subjected to over-revs which may prevent me buying a Porsche warranty (although over revving a PDK may not be possible).

I regularly check Autotrader and Pistonheads adverts but I thought I'd ask here too in case anyone is thinking of selling. Ideally I'd like to find a car in Hampshire/Wiltshire/Dorset but will consider travelling further.

Please message me if you know of anything for sale, or coming up for sale later in the year, which matches my requirements.
Thank you. Andrew.

Hi

I am intending to sell my 987.2 Cayman S PDK from September onwards as I wish to buy a Cayman GTS. My mileage is a little higher than you mention, being 54.5k now and I am based in Cheshire. It was a launch model car in 2009 and has a comprehensive Market Launch spec, details from OPC attached. Full OPC service history, just had a major service and new front tyres, 3.5 / 4mm at the rear, car under Porsche warranty until July 2018 (just renewed, so has undergone the Porsche 111 point check for this).

Let me know what you think and maybe we can talk if it's of interest.

Best regards

Malc

Update: Having sold my 2.9 Cayman I'm now looking more actively for a PDK 3.4S or an R, as per my original post.

I've already considered the various 'S' and 'R' models currently on Autotrader and PH, I'd rather hear about those that have not yet been advertised.

Thank you, Andrew.

I'm still looking for a 987.2 or 981 Cayman 3.4 S. It must have a PDK gearbox. Ideally the mileage should be up to about 45k or less for a 981. Other options I want are satnav, parking sensors, Sport, Sport+, Cruise, Climate Control, PASM if it has 20" wheels.

If you are considering selling a car with the above spec please let me know, unless it's a black car.

I've looked at all of the dealer advertisements, I want to buy at a fair 'private sale' price.

Thanks Andrew.

Actually did consider it myself ..but the deal did not work out ..no OPC warranty but their own RAC on it .Tyres down to 4 ml and 6 years old , will have had its major service done prior to sale .The seats I actually wanted as every time I take the Spyder out on a decent run it's a visit to the chiropractor after it[:)] ...getting too old for these seats :ROFLMAO:

Not to mention the 4 owners, V5 not present, and no evidence that it's been checked for over-revs.

Andrew,

Looking at the How Many Left website I'm surprised by the relatively small number of PDK 987 Gen2 CS which were registered, even less if you're looking for a CR, so the CS would be a much better bet or a 981 even more so. The site's a bit confusing because they list Cayman S-A (automatic?) and Cayman S S-A (semi-automatic?), so there's probably some overlap.

Have a look here for cars registered between 2009 and 2012: https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=porsche+cayman&commit=Search

Horses for courses regards seats I know what you mean Brian bum for every seat and gearbox type though.

But manual boxes with buckets and a few wanted extras combined with low mileage command the higher prices.

Are you absolutely 100% certain you don't want black? I don't have 20 inch wheels or PASM, but I have everything else. In addition, I have PSE. There's a chance I may be selling it in the not too distant future, so may be open to negotiation.

PM me if you'd like more details.

Cheers,

Bryan

Hello Bryan,

Thanks for the tip about your car, it's gleaming and I'm sure that you've looked after it well but I'm afraid that black is just not for me.

I'm also staying clear of PSE having read that the PSE system can cause some droning at cruising speeds such as on motorways - I know this doesn't bother a lot of owners but tinnitus makes me more intolerant to certain noises so buying a car with PSE is a risk I don't want to take. Sorry, but thank you for taking the trouble to post anyway.

Andrew.

Andrew,

No problem at all that my car is not for you.

I would only say that the PSE does not drone, so if you find one that has it, might be worth experiencing it for yourself before ruling it out. Having had 2 different Audis with Miltek exhausts, I'm well aware of how irritating a droning sounds can be, especially when it's at a rev range that can't be avoided. The PSE simply isn't like that. Also, remember that it's switch controlled so it doesn't have to be 'on' all the time.

Good luck with your search and let us know when you find something.

Cheers,

Bryan

I drive a 981'S' occasionally and found the PSE to be a lovely option - never known it to 'drone'. It's switchable, so you can have the quiet mode when it suits, but when you want to enjoy a spirited drive it elevates the quality and character of the engine tone.

I've driven Caymans on 20" wheels, with and without PASM, and it doesn't make much difference - the ride in the Cayman is remarkably good. A quiet and compliant tyre spec makes more difference. And, again, only my opinion, but I'd question the benefits of Sport Plus. I've had it on several Porsches, inc GT3 and Turbo, but never used it. Always found it much too aggressive.

Thank you for your contribution Oliver. I want the Sport Plus because I intend to compete in a few more hillclimbs before I hang up my racesuit. When buying a used car, and especially when a private sale, it's difficult to get a significant length of test drive to determine whether the car is one that can be lived with for a couple of years which is why I'm inclined to play safe and look for PASM and to not actively look for PSE.
