Wanted: Cayman 3.4 S PDK (987.2 or 981), must have PDK

Andrew, while I'm not selling my 987/2S I can tell you a few things about points you have raised, PSE relative to Tinnitus! I have Tinnitus and sometimes use the PSE in loud mode When switching on to Sport mode or Sport + it isn't necessary to have the PSE go to loud or even for PASM to switch on both can be configured using a PIWIS to the sports setting or not on selection of Sport etc. A PC should be able to do this for you.

Depending on how your Tinnitus is and how it is effected you may occasionally find it uncomfortable in loud mode but it does have a nice tone when in the quiet setting. Personally I like it in loud as it isn't too loud but in whichever setting it's running in as you hit 4,000 rpm it's not too quiet, I tend to switch to quiet when pottering around late at night as I approach home, however, it starts in loud and switches itself to quiet which is not optional, in either setting it has a nice rasp to it which my gen1 had to some degree but not such a nice tone. PDK is better in Sport mode as it is a more immediate response than in normal when driving in manual mode, when in auto the gears selected are pretty close to how most would select for the road, it learns how you drive.

PASM on 19" wheels is a bit harsh on some roads in high setting but the comfort setting is good and still has minimum roll, it can be expensive if it has problems and I ran 19' on my gen1 with standard suspension for eight years and didn't find it uncomfortable.

As a fellow tinnitus sufferer it's the tyre noise on some of our road surfaces which is the biggest annoyance. A subject Andrew and I have discussed previously! The 997 is particularly noisy in this respect - I suspect the Cayman a little less so?

Andrew, where are you based? If you're close to me in Gloucestershire, I'd be happy to take you out for a blast if you want the hear what the PSE sounds like for yourself.

Cheers,

Bryan

Thanks Buddy and tscaptain for your replies, from other information I've been given it would seem that PSE may not be too much of a problem for me after all. Certainly in my old Cayman it was tyre noise which was most annoying and this was improved by a change from Pirellis to Michelins.

Briggy (Bryan) I'm about 2 hours away from Gloucestershire so probably a bit too far to come just to hear the PSE but thanks for the offer.

I have actually been in a Cayman with the PSE and didn't find it to be a problem, my concerns were based on internet heresay about the sound from the PSE at motorway cruising speeds but I've heard first hand from owners with the PSE that this is not a problem, at least not for them.

I'll just have to wait and see what turns up when I find the right car.

Andrew, I noticed a great change in tyre noise when I moved to the 987.2 but whether it is in the car or the change in Tyres I can’t say for sure, I was previously running Bridgestones but now Michelins which if I remember correctly are 1 decibel lower on the noise rating but there were other improvements over the gen 1 too, maybe if you go to a local regional meeting someone there can demonstrate. But if you have anything which brings you to Derbyshire get in touch.

Andrew, I'm thinking about moving to a GT4 so am considering selling my R (PDK). It would be within the budget you put in the first post which is considerably cheaper than any R that is for sale at dealers at the moment. It has buckets which I consider essential for the R experience but they don't suit everyone. Let me know if it's of interest.

Thanks for your message Steve. As you've mentioned buckets don't suit everyone and I think I may tire of them quite quickly so rather reluctantly I've decided to remove a Cayman R from my wanted list. I suspect that I'll be most satisfied with a 981 with PASM.

I think if you had a manual R with cup 2's you would not be having GT4 thoughts ;-) come drive both my cars, just had Ian over to see the GT4 it was a fun afternoon.
