Wanted Early 911 for rally car

Could you post a few pics of the 959 prototype Phil? Love to see it.
This early section of the forum is easily the most interesting place to be browsing when here, even If I can't contribute much.

Sure Peter - photo's below - she's the seventh of the thirteen 'F' series prototypes - all of which carried a'930' chassis number (the car was originally going to be the 930 Gruppe B before the 959 moniker was adopted).

Used for electrical systems tests in Siberia and Southern Spain she has a huge number of unique wires for various sensors used during testing; there's a wiring circuit diagram taped inside the glovebox so the engineers could work out what's what! Being a prototype she is largely hand made and has many unique features such as the drive control computer stalk, no filler in the bonnet, unique headlights, etc., etc.

After being finished with by the factory she was 'given' to Vasek Polak, along with #9 (now owned by Mauro Bompani in Italy) as a non running 'display exhibit'. After the display carnet ran out (remember, in the US you couldn't own / run a 959) she was sent for display at the Matsuda Collection in Japan.

Returning to Europe just before Vasek Polak passed away, she was disposed of by Bonhams as part of the late Polak's estate - ending up through various traders in Europe as a non-runner.

I 'rescued' the car knowing exactly what it is - and have spent a HUGE amount of money recomissioning her - she now drives (did 148mph the other day [;)] on a closed road) and is taxed and MOT'd - so she's been saved.

A fascinating car - but I never use her so it's time for her to go to a new home now she's been made a runner - and BOY is she quick - I've owned two other production 959's and driven two others - this prototype is by far the quickest [:D]

Yes a new toy indeed, have to say its awesome.Reminds me of my old 914 only a lot faster, corners like its on rails,no understeer until realy pushing, and like the 914 snap oversteer.
Picked the car up a couple of weeks ago and with in the first 2 hours of ownership we were whizzing around silverstone, which was usefull as it gave me big respect for the car.
Best part is the V10 singing with the roof off!!
Regards
paul

Wow Phil.....superb beast, I expected it to look like a bitza but it looks like the production model, shame you have to sell, do you think it is faster than the production model? Have you had a chance to compare them? One of my favourite but largely unsuccesful Porsche racers is the forgotten 961 (the stubby but so purposeful looking 959 track variant). Everbody remembers the Dakar 959s but not the 961! I have an in car video with footage of one setting on fire at Le Mans and becoming sadly a burnt out wreck.

Wow Phil.....superb beast

Thanks Pete [:)] Only comparison has been subjective from my driving - I lent my 550bhp Silver 959 to Classic & Sportscar for Alastair Clements to back to back with a 288GTO at Chobham (? tank test circuit in Surrey?) - suffice to say the 959 whooped the GTO's behind and then drove home - unlike the GTO that had to be nursed onto a trailer [:D]

By comparison - I reckon this one is quicker.

For me it was the 961 that caused my fascination with the 959 - poetic looking and viciously fast - but sadly it never quite fulfilled its potential. Never seen one in the flesh - very, very few ever produced.

Paul,

They seem good value now - I pulled my deposit when Porsche decided to produce not 400 but 1,500 [8|] Glad I didn't take up the slot as it would have blown £140,000 by now from UK list price.

Interesting to hear your comments - been tempted to get rid of the Cup car and a few others and buy one - but they seem they're to cost more to maintain that the 959 [] I've heard stories about a £25,000 bill to adjust the valve guides at 20,000miles. Is this true or just urban myth?

Philip

The CGT are very good value,or was when we actually bought in late nov. They have all gone up a bit now, most of the new cars have also now sold, except for a couple at silly money.
I still have the order form for a new one, which never got sent off also. They made around 1200 cars,i have not bought one to be a ltd ed car,its to good for that, the driving is just so good and the engineering is simply outstanding, compare it with a enzo,or a lambo tractor etc
Have to say its got to be the best so far by porsche,Words fail me on how good it is.
The service once a year is around £700,partrs can be expensive, but if insured, not so much of a problem.
The tappets ,to check is on 30,000 miles,if they need adjusting its 25 hours labour at £115 phr!As its engine out.I have a good freind who is ex sauber f1,who would do this for me,for a third of the price.
The major issue can be the clutch, which is now realy easy to use, once you know how.A refurb clutch kit is about 4k,new is £7k!Important not to let any one drive it ,who does not know how to use the clutch,eg loading on a recovery truck or similar.
Its deff not 25k for tappets etcGo and get one,you will not be disapointed.Gt2,959 etc great cars, but not in the same game.

Looks like you'll have to give me a little training then [:D][:D][;)][;)]

Have either of you guys got a picture of your 'collection' you'd like to share with us mere mortals . . . . not that I'm jealous . . . I love it.

Talking of the CGT, a silver one turned up at Goodwood last September in the hands of a German owner. Everybody started to dribble heavily but its morning track sessions were somewhat disappointing, all on the cruise. Could be that the damp conditions made him wary. However pm he went out with an instructor and by gum didn't it move! And that banshee wail round the back section made your hair stand on end.A mighty motor indeed.

ANW104C I believe was the 1964 Motor Show car and was owned and maintained, restored even, by Francis Tuthill. It was the earliest car I could get for the 40th Anniversary display at Eynsham Hall in 2003. It has been since sold and is now working for its life in the proper way for a 911.

Hello Phil, as far as I am aware, Eoin Sloan is the Race Car Register Secretary which is essentially a Register for original Race Cars but was extended some time ago to cover all of the Classic or Historic cars prepared for competition use. It does not include modern cars prepared by the various race teams which compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup, Supercup, Porsche Club Open and Speed series.
The model of car in the Race Car Register can if the owner wishes be covered by both the Race Car and its own Register.
