Washer Jets

Gents - are all the washer jets on the 944 heated??

I seem to have a block on my near-side one that I cannot shift.. I clear it with a needle tool and then it blocks again after a few uses.. thinking a new washer jets maybe in order and doing a search I see heated ones for the 944 and was curious?

Yes your washer jets should be heated. Have you or someone else been mixing grades or makes of screenwash? If you do this they can react and sludge up in the tank.

Ah interesting, How is the heat enabled?? or are they always on? As for mix - erm - possible I guess - but thats never effected our other car.. Interesting tho, will check that out.. maybe when its empty some hot water in the tank may help?

Then flush the whole system with a couple of tanks of clean water. Note to all stick to one grade/make of screenwash. I use winter grade all year round. Probably because I have hundreds of litres of it at work []

Very interesting - and I will try that.. thanks So - a few tanks of thin bleach and water and just jet the lot through?? Bleach wont damage anything around the screen etc??? Then a few tanks of water to remove bleach etc. Then fill up with washer fluid (will prob buy Shell as thats where I get petrol).. People are going to look at me weird Sat morn when I am constantly washing my windscreen for an hr... lol..

Mild bleach solution should be no prob. Defo worth trying before you fork out for new jets.

There's a non-return filter-valve thingy where the feed splits to the two washers. It does block up. Don't remove it, because the wipers come on with the washers you don't want to be scratching dirt over the screen whilst waiting for the water to pump up to the jets.

Ah OK thanks - so this can be removed , cleaned and put back?

You can remove and clear the non return valves by soaking them in white vinegar, I used a large syringe to force solution through the valve to clear it similarly you could use a large syringe connected to the back of the jet to force water through to check if it is the jet which is blocked. It is usually the non return valves which block and even when cleaned can stick shut and stop the water getting through you could remove them and temporarily joint the washer tubing to test this out. Genuine Porsche non return valves are about £15 for the two for each nozzle, but I think you could use one from any car such as a Volvo or indeed some kit car part suppliers have these, you only need to match up the fitting to the internal tube diameter.

Mas, They unclip. You need to pull the pipe off the back of them and cut the wires (no plugs in the heating wires, but you could put some in easily if you are going to make a habit of removing them). Then slide them forwards, towards the front of the car (I think). From recollection, there is a clip underneath that you can squeeze as well, and they lift out of the bonnet. Take care not to chip the paint while doing so. Oli.

I say cut the wires to the heated jets anyway before they short out and you end up getting smoke through your vents!!!! Once the car has warmed up the screen will clear anyway!!! Why do they need to be heated?

There are heated wash jets and broken heated wash jets. Perhaps you have the latter type ... ? Oli.

My drivers washer has always been really lame. Had a shufty today and replaced the non-return valve Tee Piece with a £2.49 Halfords part. Now works a treat and is pumping gallons []
