Washing after Zymol

ORIGINAL: Mark Bennett

When you rinse, try rinsing the car off with the hose as usual, then turn the tap right down and hold the hose close to the body and let the water run on to it without causing a spray - the water will "sheet" off and very littl will remain to be mopped up.

Use a microfibre drying towel, and a smaller microfibre wipe straight after for the last remaining film.

Alternatively after following Marks procedure up to "mopped up" Get the Autoglym Aquawax out and spray each panel with a few squirts then carry on from "Use a microfibre etc" and you have just carnuba waxed your car in one easy step adding barely an extra 3 minutes or so to the entire procedure [;)]

What about that Flash squirty thing advertised on TV, supposed to rinse with it and it dries streak and mark free, just connect the hose for the fimal rinse.
Personaly i wash every two days with just a smidgen of turtle wax wash additive, and leather off immediately

Snap on the 2 days but with plain H20 and I Aquawax every 2 weeks as its so so so easy to do and so far car is 2.5 months old and 2100 miles and feels and looks like it just left the showroom [8D]

The best most cost effective I have used is by SONAX - clear shampoo. It has no harsh detergents that strip your expensive wax away, only the dirt and no wax. Less than £7 a bottle, made in Germany. I use it every week and after washing the water beads off just as if waxed.

Try Meguairs Soft Wash gel. Use luke warm water, zymol needs to be washed gently. I have titanium and find it needs a 'soft' shampoo. You could buy a spray wax like Optimum or Menzerna etc to top up on the protection.

Johnsons Baby Bath - as good as the costly shampoo's from the premium product manaufacturers at a fraction of the cost...can't be a bad endorsement from someone who represents a well known product!

Tesco's on a good day, buy get one free - and points too[;)]

I agree with jack in a box - the johnsons stuff wont harm the wax and will wash fine. What it wont do though is enhance the surface though. Clear contains other oils to condition on top of the clean. Minor difference but worthy of note [;)]

I've had my boxster 3 weeks now and loving every second of it. I want to give the car a good deep clean and then a few coats of a good wax. I was wondering if it would be best to start with a clay bar. Also which premium brands should I be looking at? To be honest I don't really know where to start. Any help to get get my Zenith Blue paint shiney would be appreciated.

after a good wash use clay bar then finish off with zymol -lots of threads deal with this!![:D]

You dont need to use any more than say 2 capfuls in 3/4 bucket of water and I use a zymol chamy afterwards to get rid of the Oxfordshire water and my bottle has lasted 18 months so far. a bottle should last a year and its whats recommended with your wax, my car looks freshly polished after a wash and dry and it is only waxed twice a year.

Well if its a hand application.

You could buy some Zymol Clay, Field Glaze, Hd Cleanse and Zymol Glasur. That would get you on your way to a great shine.

I dont really buy into the Zymol thing and decide to not help with zymols marketing lol although I do own their Titanium Glaze. I do know people with it but I have quite a few waxes and just now I use a brand called, Poorboys Nattys Wax. My car has been clayed, machine polished in varying stages i.e. course to fine, and then glazed and finally waxed.

If your looking to get really into your car care try www.detailingworld.co.uk some very keen experts.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Thanks for all the info, am about to take the car to the Ring and wanted her in beautiful condition, had Zymolled about 6 weeks ago after a few scratches had been dealt with and wasn't sure whether I could just shampoo and apply another coat or had to strip her right back again, all questions have been answered reading this thread.

You could try collecting and using rain water - saves on the water bill and hasn't been filtered through chalk etc., and so shouldn't leave marks. Could be marginally acidic though! My 200l water butt has sufficient head to prime and run a power washer from the outlet tap.
