To be honest this sounds like the wastegate to me. Is it possible you've got a dual port wastegate fitted. Tial and Lindsey are the most common and are pictured below (courtesy of Rick). They wont necessarily be red in colour, my tial is silver and I,ve seen blue before.

Is this where you have a leak? From description on previous threads I thought we diagnosed (as far as possible without pictures) that it was the pipe the wastegate vents back into the exhaust system through.

It looks like the pipe that is on the right of the wastegate at the top that is leaking, well when i say leaking its been very badly welded and has metal clips holding it on (would be better if it didnt have one at all !!)I have sent chris a picture which he has kindly offered to post form me so hopfully we can see what i need.

You mean that bit made of snot and jubilee clamps? It isn't meant to look like that!
Yep thats the part,no wonder its blowing, i got a bit of a shock myself when i first saw it !!!. So what is it then ??

It looks to me like the exhaust inlet to the wastegate, I'm no expert though so will stand to be corrected. According to PET the part no is 951 123 027 01. but I would seek confirmation before ordering.

That sounds like it could be the part,it does look like the pipe on the wastegate at the top of your picture, ive never been under the car properly yet so i dont know what type of gate it has fitted !!!

Thats it. The top wastegate in the picture is the Lindsey which basically reuses the lower half of the original wastegate. so yours could be a lindsey wastegate but going by the state of the pipe is almost certainly original[;)]

Here's a couple of pics to show what it should look like.

First on a standard wastegate:

and also on a TiAL:

I'd try the usual breakers to find a replacement for your, erm, thingy with clips on it []
Thanks for the pics ,i have had a look under the car and its the same as the first pic (standard gate),chris the part number is correct so now i know which part i need has anyone got one ???

I fitted a boost enhancer today and it only seems to have made the problem worse. it also isn't bringing full boost in any sooner. It is however making the turbo spool up to 1 bar almost instantly making the car feel better to drive round town and giving it much more torque meaning i have to change down much less often.

That's all a boost enhancer does.

Is your wastegate knackered? Might as well ask if you have an original wastegate. It was a bad design and it doesn't age well.

I'd say 100% you need to get shot of the chips if it's overfuelling. It sounds like you have no means of increasing the boost pressure to use the extra fuel that the chips are providing so you only have half the kit left anyway.

By design the standard wastegate has a pretty weak spring that is forced open by exhaust pressure long before maxium boost is reached. What this means is that valuable boost is always disappearing down down the exhuast so the lag effect is emphasised, and the power is delivered in a gentler fashion.

The boost enhancer is a nice cheap way to delay the wastegate opening too prematurely, but it can only do so much, especially on a 20 year old part which will now be incredibly weak. A new wastegate from Porsche is £££££ and still has the same problem so most people fit a 'dual port' design from either Lindsey or TiAL and then use proper chips designed to match fuel delivery with a higher boost of 1.2 bar (18psi).

Make sure everything is working properly before going down the modification route, there will probably be lots of vacuum leaks and maybe minor electrical sensors misbehaving - like throttle position sensor, air flow meter etc
