water ingestion

Id agree that regular use is better. That doesnt mean that higher mileage cars are better though. S2s certainly arent known for ingesting water: its principally a series one problem, although any car can take in water and be badly damaged, in the right circumstances.

It's got to be pretty bad conditions. I've seen plenty of modern cars stranded after going through the flood water that seems to be more common now, we get a lot of locallised flooding on roads near rivers and canals. Any car has an air intake somewhere. Unless you drive a Landie with a snorkel, you can only drive through as much depth of water as your intake can handle, including the bow-wave you create.

I'd worry more about a modern car's electrics in flood water than taking water into the engine of a 944. And, as I found out yesterday on my way back from Club office, the wider tyres on an S2 aquaplane noticeably more than my old Lux on really treacherous roads. [&o]

Worrying thread this one. I was on the 'phone last night to a good friend with an S2, who has had problems since it went though a particularly large flood somewhere near Devon. Low (no) compression on one of the cylinders ... had a guess-diagnosis of a broken valve spring from a (good) garage. It wasn't until reading this thread that I realised the water ingestion could be an issue ... []

(and still people say that using them every day is better for the car, which is utter gollocks in my opinion)

Been done to death on other threads.
