We turn your drama into a nightmare

Sarger have just contacted me and apologised for what has happened. They have made it clear that they regret the mixup and wish to make things right. They have offered me a Porsche from manabouttown cars ?? and £ compensation for my out of pocket expenses.

Regretably I have now had to decline the Porsche and the money because their offer of £50 was derisory. for the five hours of stress and anquish all this has cost me.

I'm glad its all over and this whole issue is now closed.

I'm sure there will a few of you that will now wish to tell me that I should have accepted their offer but without knowing the full circumstances you'll just have to accept that it is my decision based on my unique set of circumstances not yours.

For future reference their senior manager made it clear that Sarger's Policy in these events should have been not to use Enterpri**s cars but to use a specialist Prestige car hire company . Hope that information will prove usefull to someone.

I read your post GT and my experience has been that your protected bonus is only valid with your current insurer. If you change your insurer they are entitled to load your premium next year byreducing your NCB and therafter due to you having made a claim.
Presumably you will lose your current 9 years or whatever .

This would be a bit restrictive next renewal as your current insurers would be aware of this predicament.

Presumably someone with a lot more knowledge than I will advise on the subject

Not me, then! [:D]

I'll put my tuppence-worth in, though. One of the perennial issues I deal with is cars being written off for small accidents, due to the massive costs of actually claiming. The helpline, courteousy car, recovery, approved bodyshop with required pot plants, free-trade coffee and pretty receptionist etc. all bump the cost up far in excess of the real repair cost. Hence a dent in a wing becomes a multi-thousand claim. And that's without the whiplash claims. [&o]

I'd avoid going through insurers if at all possible. I've had two non-fault claims over the last 12 years and both times I had to go through every hoop in order to avoid a knock-for-knock, with the obvious no-claims issue. Even though I got my insurer the first time to agree not to charge the excess or reduce my NCD, it was a problem at renewal time as you have to declare an accident that the insurer has deemed you were responsible for, in part, by agreeing to the knock-for-knock. []

The second time, it would have involved a court case to reclaim the damages. I wasn't even in the van at the time, so was not going to agree to save the insurer money by settling for knock-for-knock. They agreed that it would be written down as a non-fault accident, and it's not been a problem changing insurer this year with full NCD. It was a battle, but worth it.

Nick, all you need to worry about is getting the car back in one piece. Even then, the car is only a lump of metal and not as important as your own stress levels. Don't get hung up on what the various companies did wrong, it'll only worry you as they really don't care two hoots. I'm not sure any of them do!

Peanut

What a tale of woe and just to make it worse don't forget that the A303 is going to be closed for 5 weeks or so.
I think your Happy Angel must be on holiday.

thanks for that Paul.
Thats an important point about own insurers repair costs writing the car off. I'd forgotten about that.

I just lost it yesterday because of the pressure of everything the car ,insurers , caring for my Dad 24/7 and 4x nights of stomach cramps and diarrhea .Its a sure sign of stress .
I know I need to do something about reducing the causes of stress in my life so I can start seeing life in a different perspective instead of biting everyones head off all the time.
