Weight loss. What next!

ORIGINAL: Tony

Ollie, does this fit straight on the 964RS?

Tony

Hi Tony

Fits perfectly, got the part from Gert on the Thursday and it was fitted when the engine went back in on the friday without modification.

Cheers

Ollie

Simon I have lost 8 kilos since Xmas done 3000km on my bike. The drawback is no time to drive the RS!

Hi Simon,
I've built many race cars over the years and my experience is once you've dealt with all the main, obvious measures, you can still save a quite an extraordinary amount of extra weight by paying attention to detail.

Start with removing or lightening extraneous bracketry on the shell and ancillary components. Bumpers usually have a lot of metal strengthening that can be removed or lightened. Metal can usually be removed from inner door skins without any adverse effects. Get rid of interior door handles and use string! Drill out any non-stressed metalwork and use aluminum bolts wherever possible - without compromising safety obviously. If you can handle it, ditch the brake servo and work on your braking leg.

With all this in mind, you need to stay within the regulations for the events you are competing in. Read these carefully and look for loopholes that can give you an advantage. I hope this will give you a few ideas.

I reckon you can shave another 50k off. It'll be a lot of work but shouldn't cost a bomb.[;)]
Regards
Clive

When you've spent 6 months working to add lightness, don't throw it away by running on old tyres. Brand new rubber, (buffed to 4mm if you are on treads) is worth real time. Make sure that the wheels are all pointing in the right direction and that your corner weights are equalised with the driver in position. Then drive like your girlfriend's husband has found out and is coming after you....

Can I mention

undertrays
carbon doors
macalon windows (sp?)
headlights, are they really required?
Apparently the beams behind the bumpers can be removed altogether (only for low speed impact protection)
Heating matrix (behind fueltank)
