Unfortunately...as you can see....it rained !

Which is a pity because this is what it looked like on the Friday...

Bring back any memories (for those of you did the 997 + Porkas in the Trough last year) ???

Just feeling lonely as I was only one of 2 Porsches amongst 27 cars [] One of them was an Aston which sounded fantastic but unfortunately, it suffered a bit of damage as they don't fly (or should I say land)very well [&:][&:]

Really looking forward to the registers next trip "Up Norf" [:)][:)]

A rose among the thorns..........[:)]

lol !! I know I'm "back home" now as one of the Lotus guys posted "damn that Porka is ugly" [:(]

Just goes to show...beauty is definately in the eye of the beholder [:D]

check out the diary dates for hints [;)]

Weather was lovely Saturday but sadly I spent half of it subdued from an all night work session.
I did however have a great run out for lunch on a rather Grey Sunday...[:D]

The photos certainly bring back memories... and they think the Porkers looks ugly- Yeah from the rear maybe [8D](only bit they see[;)])

Wish I'd have known Doug !

Found myself out searching for roads over the weekend, would love to have met up with some similar company. [;)]

Hi Ian !!

Damn...if I would have known....we could have really shown the Lotus crew what our ugly cars can do (only joking...they are a jolly decent lot actually) [:D]

Try this one :-

Settle->Horten in Ribblesdale->Hawes->(turn left) to Sedburgh->Drop down to Devils bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale->Back down A65 to Ingleton->(turn left) back to Ribble-Head viaduct->(turn right) back to Settle via Horten in Ribblesdale again.

What a loop !!!!

Hope to see you on next 997 Register Northen run.

It's getting to seem that this 997 register is now a "Turbo" only club now-a-days [:(] no room for us poor boring normal Porsche's...........[:(] ........

Definately not in my experience.....each of the 997 runs I have been on had a good mix of all variants...including 997, 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, Boxster(s) & 996 (although I admit....996 is now a 997 Turbo [:D][:D]).

Like the Lotus run I went on this Sunday, was brilliant to see (and drive with) a variety of cars from old Lotus Elan & Esprit all the way through to most modern & extreme Exige S possible (with a 996 C2 Tip, 997 Turbo & Aston V8 Vantage thrown in for good measure). If we all had exactly the same car, what a totally boring place this would be [&:]

That's my favourite midweek hoon (v little traffic). Especially the 684 from Hawes to Sedburgh. Wonderful road.

Agree !!

Only just discovered this road....know any other good ones around same area ??

Mike, not at all...
However I will admit that I have said the very same in years gone by... We have always been really well supported on events by members that own the Turbo version of the 997- in fact it has been a 50% of some events have been Turbos on the event... thats not to say that the other 50% were in fact 997 of all other models- including GT2 and GT3... The events- all our event- are open to all 997 register members-

There was a very brief discussion that the Turbo owners were more enthusiasts of the marque- but without exception those members attending our events have always been enthusiasts... there is however and always will be those that buy the badge, but I think that of the nearly 10% who bother interacting with the club- there's not many in there...

The original event in this post wasn't open to all as it was in fact a Lotus event that opened their door to like minded people- as we did on the last North West drive and fully enjoyed Daves company.

I am genuinely all ears for members views and comments and have organised events ranging from Polishing (which no one wanted to do last year), static displays, to driver training, to trips abroad... and the majority always seem to be Turbo owners...[&:] I've just looked at the bookings for the You drive day.... you'll never guess....

Thing is, a well driven non turbo will always shine on the register runs - nimble, more than fast enough, and adds variety to the group pics!

Especially if it's a Ferrari! [8|]

For a tight "mountain" road try Buttertubs Pass from Hawes to Keld (JC's favourite road) and then on to the Tan Hill Inn. The best way back is to reverse the route, but you can sweep back round into Swaledale via Arkengarthdale for variety.

Also try B6160 From Aysgarth to Skipton which you can use with the Settle to Hawes road as an alternative loop.

In Lancashire try B6478 from Hellifield on the A65 to Dunsop Bridge then through the Trough of Bowland and back via B6480 to A65. Really challenging in parts

Heading into Cumbria and Northumberland I've got some great recommendations but they might not be so near home.

Got any other good recommendations? I'm on the Yorks/Lancs border. Happy motoring.
