For a tight "mountain" road try Buttertubs Pass from Hawes to Keld (JC's favourite road) and then on to the Tan Hill Inn. The best way back is to reverse the route, but you can sweep back round into Swaledale via Arkengarthdale for variety.
Also try B6160 From Aysgarth to Skipton which you can use with the Settle to Hawes road as an alternative loop.
In Lancashire try B6478 from Hellifield on the A65 to Dunsop Bridge then through the Trough of Bowland and back via B6480 to A65. Really challenging in parts
Heading into Cumbria and Northumberland I've got some great recommendations but they might not be so near home.
Got any other good recommendations? I'm on the Yorks/Lancs border. Happy motoring.

Another personal favorite of mine (which I brought the register back over from our Tan Hill run) is Skipton old road (Skipton to Colne back road).
