Were there any changes during the Gen 1 997 turbo

Does anyone know if there were ANY changes or recalls whatsoever during the production cycle of this car from 2006 to 2009, apart from the addition of PCM3?

Thanks

The only recall that I recall ([:)]) was for a squirt of lubricant into the turbos. And I'm not even sure that was a recall as such. A relatively minor issue. Are you getting one then?[;)] Pretty much bullet proof car as far as I can tell.

Thanks. Yes, that's the plan for next year. It has to be a gen 1, primarily due to budget - I want to keep the Spyder and run the 997 as my main car. It'll probably therefore be a 2006/7 car i.e. the first ones off the production line. Hence the query.

Pity you're not in the market for one now. There's a very nice low mileage example down this way at the moment[;)]

That would be perfect. And with such a low mileage for the age there wouldn't be much to worry about[:)]

Also a small part of the wiring loom, just had ours done on a recall 1 hours work.
other than that superb car.just touched 71000 and still going strong.

Paul, did they contact you or did you check with PC for any recalls?

The car was in for rear tyres, when Wayne quite literally came up to me and said they have a recall on gen 1's
It is to do with a part of the wiring which I believe was slightly rubbing on the engine or body which was causing it to wear through.
Ask your opc.

I think there are different categories of recall. Some are only carried out if the car exhibits the problem or if the car is in the workshop and they check it's VIN against the database whilst it is in. Saves consuming parts on cars that don't immediately need it (and I can agree with that approach because i've been waiting for a part since last September and still can't get it[&o]). Also an issue can be related to a subset of cars that are effectively the same model as some component changes/improvements will happen during the production cycle but won't be identifiable as a specific model revision because it was a single component that was upgraded for quality rather than performance or safety.

Thanks for all the input the guys. For a supercar to have such a clean bill of health is very impressive. As I plan not to buy any more cars for some time, I want something that'll serve fairly reliably for a good few years and equally keep my interest for the same extended period (and rear seats for a child).

In addition to what's been said, the only recall notice that came up on that VOSA link was this one and only affected 16 cars. Superb[:)]

Hi Paul !

No one can accuse you of not using it [:D]

What mileage did it have when you bought it ??

Any plans to change or do you intend to keep it indefinitely ??

Had mine going on 4 yrs now and it's only just rolled onto 30,000...(bought at 16k) definitely not using it enough !

Has also been great and apart from an annoying belt noise & a replacement starter (both sorted under warranty), have had no issues.

I think it's an amazing car but seems my view is not widely shared over on PH (worst in the 997 range apparently) [:(]

Anyway, I still love it and as we are getting a new Cayenne next month, won't be changing it any time soon (can't afford to now !!).

Hi Oggy.

If you don't mind me asking, how come you've done so few miles in it?

No problem at all,

Purely a combination of family life, work commitments + it's a 3rd car (and my 3rd child [:D]).

Every time I do drive it (like have been doing today), just blows me away....evidently not to everyone's taste but still does it for me.

Planning to get more use out of it this year, starting with 'Porsches on the Prom' later this month [:)]

Good luck with the search, that 2007 car does look lovely !

Sadly I think it's part of the sport of PH. .Turbo bashing... if it's not a stick or GT3 with aircooled, then it not worthy!!
Mind you the school holidays are over with shortly [:)] [;)]

The fact it's a benchmark says it all really.
Certainly one of the best motors I've ever owned- even with it's taste for radiators!!
I did 44K in the last one..

Hi Doug
Hope your well.
Tanya and I bought the car at 41600,a few miles in two years
Just renewed the warranty, small issue with a overrev.
We do plan on changing this year,we might be looking at another gen 1 with much less miles in black
or a gen 2 depends the house is still not finished

Paul
