Helen Goff

No.1 Poster
in order to keep the region going untill an R/O is found..

how about we meet at The Queens Head Bretford 8pm on the 2nd Thurday of the month.????

Helen,

How big is the region (geographically and active members) and in the absence of a RO what needs to be done to keep the embers burning?

James

i beleive theres about 750 members in the region, about 50 active members... the region has Birmingham in the centre.. see PCGB web site(click on logo at top of page for a link) for a map.

all that really needs doing to keep the interest going and information flowing is for there to be a monthly meeting in the area and a small write up/information in the PP..

im willing to help out all i can

any regular annual events that are likely to drop off the radar if not kept up etc etc etc? and do you know how much time the role requires?

your best to talk to Mavis and Colin Billington who have been running the region up untill now i know they would be delighted to have a chat with you.

your find their details in your PP or e-mail r9@porscheclungb.com

The west Midlands is i think most of Staffordshire , Warwickshire and some of Worcestershire, dont know where Bretford is ?
Suggest somewhere Central and near a motorway.
Cheers
john

As long as there's general agreement Helen I'll come up with a list of suitable venues?

sounds good to me James. can we aim for the first official meeting being Thursday Feb 10th 2005.

and if you can find somewhere we can give it a test run on Thursday Jan 13th 2005 to see how it goes and discuss this face to face?

im more than happy to do the advertising and write ups for the meetings /events untill someone from the area takes over..

Hi all,

Just a suggestion for a venue (if M40/M42 area is correct).

Leave M42 and head South on the M40 for one junction. Leave M40 and head to Hockley Heath on the A34 Stratford to Birmingham Road. After about half a mile there is a huge pub on the right - sorry but name escapes me.

It is used regularly on a Sunday in the winter and a Wednesday in the summer for 'interesting / classic' car meetings, so they are well used to car folk using it as a venue.

If I recall the name I will let you know.

As an aside, this is the road from the M40 that heads to the junction where you turn right for the Solihull OPC.

It is now called the Old Royal Oak at Hockley Heath. Do a Google on it and you will find many car and bike clubs that list it as their meeting place, as well as the regular first sunday and Tuesday or Wednesday in Winter and Summer respectively.

28th January at 8pm sounds good to me.

B94 6DX is here

Hardly central then It's about a 120 m round trip for me and anyone who lives to the West of the M6 ie Telford. Pass I think!

Ian. you have hi-lighted the main problem of region 9.(Birmingham is slap bang in the middle) for the last ? years the meetings have been in and around the north end of Birmingham,.. maybe this region could benefit from having more than one meeting.. i think the sunday meet and drive meeting in the other thread could help solve this problem.

28th January at 8pm sounds good to me.

thats a Friday?? always a very busy day in pubs. traditionally this region has always met on the 2nd thurday of the month. i think it would be a good idea to stick with that.

Tursday 13th Jan 2005 8pm at The Old Royal Oak.Hockley Heath.

BTW Ian its not local for me either, but any excuse for a drive[8D]

I live south of Birmingham, so I tended to visit the East midlands meetings more than the West Mids, as the East Mids meeting point was in fact closer!! apart from that it was some great roads for me to get there[;)].
I would try to attend as long as it was out and away from central Birmingham, which I think most would agree, not a pleasent trip on the best of days...

Sorry Helen, must have stepped in to some form of parallel time - not quite sure where I got the 28th from ? It is indeed the 2nd Thursday of the month, and the 13th at 8pm sounds a good start.

I also agree re: location as the region is very large - I never actually made it up to Sutton, but did go to OPC Solihull a couple of times.

One word of warning, there is NO EXIT from the M40 coming North at the A3400 junction. If going North, you will end up on the M42 heading to the Airport and need to come back on yourself at the A3400 (now in effect a right turn off the M40) - awful explanation but you get my drift.

Thanks for the warning.i'll be coming along the M42 so am planing to come off at J4 and head south down the A3400. is this a mistake?

For anyone coming along the M42, take the A3400 to Stratford. After a few miles you will pass through Hockley Heath, and the Old Royal Oak is less than a mile on your left. If you get to the roundabout and bridge over the M40 you have gone too far.
