What do i do now?

Charles, if you have some emotional attachment to the car then spend money on it... but to be brutally honest, the amount of money you're going to spend to have that lot put right will easily buy you one of the best 944 Luxs in the country plus some change.
 
I have found what seems to be a solid 86 lux shell which is apparently solid been dry stored for ten years, going to check out with possibility of transferring my engine and running gear into it after Xmas.
 
Series one cars and series two cars have very, very little in common. You cannout transfer everything from one car into another. Id give that idea up as a bad job.
 
The 1986 car I'm due to look at only issue it apparently has is broken oil pump I. E car has no oil pressure so taking into consideration the bodywork if it is actually solid it would be worth changing the pump?
 
If it is a pickup pipe without getting bashed for lack of knowledge what is that on a 944 and can it be fixed easily or would a second hand engine be better?
 
I would not spend any more money on that car. Sell it and save up some money for a better condition car. Keep an eye on ebay, lots of bargains there..
 
Well guys here is some of the pics from the Shell i have been to see today, it is inexpensive but as from the pictures you can see alot better condition than mine but just wanted the thoughts of the forum, the plan is move the shell to mine then over the new year restore any defects and transplant my engine into the car.
 
The bill for repairing my broken oil pickup pipe was £350 in parts with 10 hours mates' rates labour from my Porsche Indy and a fair few "while you're in there" jobs..
 
This is utter madness. You don't re-shell a 944.. That's classic ford chat. If the car is beyond reasonable repair it is for the bin (or break it). A re-shelled Porsche is worthless yet it will be costing you plenty. Even that shell above looks a mess too.. Cut your losses.. Bin the scrap, buy a decent car. I pick up solid 944's for a song every couple of weeks so there is no reason why you can't find a good car with a future for a good price. You'll get a decent s2 for £4-4500 maybe needing a service and a little paint to arches and sills. And you'll at least have a decent car with a value afterwards.
 
Shark makes a lot of sense....[&o] Assuming the new car above needs attention to the less-serious rust, and a full respray, plus a total switch of running gear from an incompatible car, you're in to what? £5K, £8K, more? Unless you're a masochist with a lot of tools, a ramp, good bodywork skills, and the desire to lose all your money and your family, walk away! [&:] A £5K S2, cab or turbo might well need a lot of work doing as well, but it's likely to be worth £10K when it's done. A lux just won't be worth that money spending on it, sothere has to be an emotional reason to choose a Lux as the starting-point for a project that's going to be a labour of love. I go back to what I've always said: a 944 is a £10K Porsche. Whether you spend the £10K on the best, or spend £10K doing one up, it's up to you. I've spent easily that on mine, and wouldn't, in hindsight, do it again on that car.
 
The new car needs the sills done at some point for sure and those rear boot catches but the engine is same in both cars checked them out yesterday 2.5 8v or have I missed something? I'm not after a minter I want something to work with its just my current 944 is to far gone its not worth it so will be broken down for a nice stash of spares.
 
Judging by the photos of the burgundy car, that shell is also likely to need considerable work. And based on the amount of welding wire poking up into the rear quarter, whoever welded it up before couldn't weld very well. I fear if you were to buy this one too, you would just have two rusty shells and a pile of lux bits which are worth a lot less then you've paid for two rusty cars. I think you need to start again with a revised budget and a bit more knowledge. Get back what you can on your initial bad buy and spend some more time looking at cars for sale before buying the next one. You know now the areas which are the real killers so you should be better equipped to make a better buy next time.
 
Having seen the photos I think I can safely say that I have never seen a 944 as far gone as that before and still one piece. sadly I think the only option is to break it up for spares and put the funds towards the purchase of a better example (plenty out there !) Am inclined to agree that the burgundy one is well on its way too. [&o]
 
Take a look at my thread 'oh my god help'... and this is on a car that from the outside looked pretty good. The rot is all in similar places. Once you get bubbling on the outside of the rear arches then the rear quarter panel is toast and replacement is needed. The inner arch panels will be gone too and to repair properly is a lot of work. A cheap bodge repair will cause you even more trouble in a couple of years. If you're buying a 944 you want a good shell as a starting point. I agree with what others have said... cut your losses and scrap/break what you have. Sorry!
 
Such a shame before the outside is pristine bar the boot catches.

[/URL] damn site better than mine, such a same because ive been looking at cars all weekend and even lux's at 3-4k ive looked at have been in the same condition really hard to find a good one starting to think a project is the only way.

Thats essentially what im going to do only the shell is costing me alot less than 2-2.5k and looks to be in similar condition, drop my engine into the car scrap the white one keep a collections of spare and have the rust taken care of full respray and car should be one the road for next summer some time. Have spoken to local Porsche indie and they said the same it will cost the earth to do potentially but i will do alot of the mech work myself and have retro restorer do the bodywork, but atleast ill know the car is 100% rather than spending 3.5k on a car similar to the guards red one on sale on here only to find out in 3 months that the sills are rusting and its gonna cost 1000 per side to fix.
