What does it take to realise the pleasure of driving a 944?

Scott, the problem you will find is like Fen has experienced unless your next car is vastly better then what you have (in some way at least) you will be dissapointed. This is why I decided years ago that a nice 993 would be a step up but with track focused suspension and brakes on the S2/turbo I am not so sure now it would be a big enough step given that in reality track peformance is all that really matters to me with these cars. Remember as well that we are talking about massive sums of wonga that one is justified in expecting something massively better. For me it has to be GT3 or similar and TBH even if I had the money to buy one today I wouldn't until I had explored my S2 on the track until the point I got bored of it.

If you get really serious then there is always the option of tracking down a 'real' GT3 i.e. ex race car, but then we are talking reeaallllly serious.

You're spot on Neil and that is a big factor - as well as the fact that if I spend £25k on a car I am not really going to be keen to take it on track like I am with the 944. I have sort of said to myself that if I get a 911 i'll have to wait for a GT3 or 993 / 996 turbo to depreciate into an affordable pricerange. I don't think that is going to happen any time soon!

ORIGINAL: Hilux

I would not consider a jap car to own by any chance

I understand the sentiment, bland BUT reliable.

I ran Toyota Hilux`s for nearly 20 years without failure or issue clocking up some 600,000 miles and now commute to the station and run around our Hertfordshire Lanes in a faithful old Landcruiser having also used DAF/Land Rover/Mercedes vehilcles which all failed drastically from time to time.

Toyota engineering is superb and bullet proof when looked at.

I don't know..i've only owned 944s all my life..exept the Toyota Carina E (K-reg) that i bought just to get used to right hand drive..wasn't a nice experience - it only started when it felt like it(electronics fckd i guess)..and now the Celica..a "sportscar" that feels nearly the same as a carina..or maybe it's just me..[8|]
