What have I done? (Warning - Damaged car content)...
- Thread starter Chris Parry
- Start date
Damage was to the two front wings, the offside suspension strut / wheel and to the rear offside wing
Sold it to my local Porsche guy, who had it repaired, and sold it to someone in Germany for ÂŁ8.5k, so I don't think he made a huge amount on the deal

Early indication from the crash centre is it's a write off, although no inspectors report yet.
What's the best way of valuing it? I've scoured the web but can't find another example for sale

full service history Porsche and JZ
camel leather
new roof last summer
lots of bills etc etc

With regards to valuations, I think you need to go through Autotrader and places like Piston Heads classifieds and build up some sort of file of reasonably priced cars similar to yours. I think that's all the insurers do anyway!
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi all, I've just done something similar this morning [] Tough little car, I'm physically fine.

That looks really nasty - hope you are OK?
When I was "in discussion" with the Insurance company over the value of my car I compliled a file of cuttings from Porsche Post, Porsche 911 World, and printouts from Pistonheads.com and 911uk.com to show to the Insurance assessor. If you are "firm but fair" with them, ie not trying to inflate the value of the car, then eventually they should come to an agreement that you are happy with.
Want to swap hoods []

I think I was being a bit keen just coming out of a 40 zone. I was overtaking a slow car and got on the slippery stuff on the opposite verge. the back end came around a bit (not usually a problem) front wheel hit large pot hole (and broke, I think). Now heading for verge on the near side going sideways. Up on the verge, front corner hits big chunk of hedge that spins me 180degrees to a halt. The guy I overtook pulled up asked if I was OK and pottered away. It must have looked incredible from his point of view.
It all looks a bit twisted and very sad (I'm sure it's a write-off)
Pete, unfortunately the rear window is punctured by branches.
I'm getting over it slowly, I was thinking about selling it this spring... no I'm lying, I'm absolutely gutted

I forgot to say shame about your accident, I guess we are both in the market for new 993s?
chin up, in a strange way we are helping to keep values up e.g. fewer "straight" ones around. What I learned in 4 years of ownership will really put me in a far better position when I go shopping again.
Just thought I'd add my sympathy for both of you.
Having come to the 993 family late (14 months ago) I am still learning how great they are to drive (and making a few mistakes in the process!).
I'm sorry to have to say that I too thought about the value thing! Sorry!
The whole sorry tale does raise some questions in my mind.
993s are clearly a dwindling resource and although we know how many were made, does anyone know how we might learn how many 993s are in circulation in all forms? I was also wondering how you'd find out the numbers available in any particular specification like colour combination.
Another thing that's always troubled me, is the whole matter of body work and what difference cosmetic work makes to values.
At the end of the day, we all want to look after our charges for the next generation and it seems inevitable that we will all need to have some work done eventually.
My 993 has had some surgery done to the inner wheel arches (flaking paint) and bumpers during my ownership for example and although I am very confident there's been no major work done to it in the past, is the only decent car an original car?
Any thoughts?
In the meantime, I wish you guys all the luck in the world for a positive outcome to what must be a really upsetting time for you. When I looked at the photos my heart sunk!
You are absolutely right about learning lessons from your ownership experience for example though: I would know better next time too (though all's well now)!
Good luck and keep us informed.
Cheers,
Chris

I think the short answer is "no", although Maurice has posted some useful info in the FAQ section of this forum about how many RHD 993s were imported to the UK.
You then have to subtract a percentage for attrition (say 5% per annum ???) which gives you your total. Of course there is no way you can be precise about this. The only people with the true figures are the DVLA, and I've never heard of them releasing this kind of data.

I don't know. I do know that the 993 is the only car I want to own. I did look at coupes when I bought this one.ORIGINAL: kennyboy
Do you think you'll go for another cab harborp?
I also want to spend a bit of time in a C2 to really get a feel for the difference, any offers? I will be careful
