what I've spent on the car in 1st year

4 years of ownership and I reckon I've got receipts for about 14,000 euro at this stage.
My 2 biggest being 1 for 3500 for body part fixing and respray and decals and new rubbers and the other for about 2500 for timing belt, water pump brakes and service and other small bits and pieces.
Then again, with full body respray, body work, new sports exhaust, rear window replacement, new windscreen, clutch, gearbox, suspension, brakes (twice), belts and waterpump (not a recond.) and various other bits and pieces and servicing every 4 or 5 months I reckon that there is not much more left.
Then again, if I had got a 911 in Ireland for 40k it would be worth 14k less on depreciation never mind the other costs so with the 944 still being worth more than I paid I reckon it's an investment.
Still though driving from Dublin to Clare and back 2 weeks ago and Donegal and back last weekend it is easy to see that the money is well spent.

Had the car about two months now. I have spent so far quite a bit more than anticipated.

Had full service and gave the chap at RGA carte blanche to get it up to top standard, 4 new tyres, headlamp wiring, cluth slave cylinder, right down to little things like the washer jet nozzle, (steering wheel noise..) etc etc came to 1600. Car felt in a different league after I picked it up though.

Then just picked it up from its MOT today.. whatever the cost for the MOT, but more headlamp issues, and the rear brake line was leaking slightly so it failed, chap put new lines on and passed it. handbrake cable needed adjusting correctly also, plus the recurring noise from the steering wheel i couldnt sort. 300

But it is perfect now and factoring in the cost of the car purchase at 7k and insurance at 1k, im staring £10k in the face for what I believe is as near to perfect example of this classic as one could wish for.

I think you would struggle to find a much better £10k classic car proposition than a low mileage late plate 44 turbo, with FSH and the knowledge that it literally has been gone over with a toothcomb.

Hopefully wont be visiting RGA Porsche centre (who are very very good btw) for a while now (crosses fingers, touches wood)

the most important thing for me is it makes me smile every time i drive it[:)].

In two and a half years I have spent about £2500 on items such as:
steering rack(leaking) tyres all round,general service,upgrade speakers,stereo upgrade,rear splitter,stone guards,battery,odd paintwork,
All seems worth while though[:)]
 
I've spent a total of £80 since I bought mine. Filled up twice at Shell and swelled their profits [8D]
But the spending starts tomorrow with a Thatcham 1 alarm/imobiliser at a cost of £380!!! [8|] I'm tempted to take it to Hartech for its first service which would include a cambelt (?), but if I take note of any advisories it could swell to over 2k!! (think I'll take it the year after [;)], Crosses legs and stuff and preys cambelt holds on for another 5thou miles)
 
Had the car 1 months and blown

£750 on having a new cam tensioner and chain (no records of it from previous owner)
£12 touch up paint
£50 Mats for the footwell
£50 clear indicator (side and front) lenses
£180 initial check on car

But she's running really well and the only expected cost to add for the next 12 months is rear hatch pins. So if I can get away with £1000 a year. Expect sills and brake cables to be done in 2/3 years then I'll be quite happy with it as a running cost car.

My six year old elise easily costs me 2500-3000 a year with consumables from trackdays and K-series engine blow-ups. And that's on 5000 miles a year.
 
Andy - I had my sills done by Dave Mac who runs Daytona Coachworx in Stevenage. He came very highly recommended by lots of guys here and on Tipec, and has done plenty of 944 sill repairs before, which I felt important. I couldn't be more pleased with their work, and at a good price too, I felt.

James - I found the fuel lines a bit awkward but not too bad. I cheated a bit and used PTFE lined braided hose to replace my rotten fuel lines above the rear beam, and they've been fine, even used with compression joints onto the existing pipework. I also used Heldite jointing compound and so far so good. No leaks on the joints and I didn't have to drop the rear beam to post the lines over the top. Total cost of having the hoses made up with all the compression fittings was about £70. See post here;

Owned mine just over a year now and it was relatively a cheap year; approx £100 for s/h turbo cooling pump and relay. That considered, I bought the car for £7K and therefore expected to have the first year of ownship to be cheap.

After a recent routine check on the brakes, I have decided to get the calipers refurb'd.
est. costs £450 + £200 parts, which include braided hoses, most of the labour offset by myself.
The next job due is belts, plus a check over of the pulleys and tensioners etc. - an indie job
Then I need to check out the bushes on the front roll bar.

I know most of you guys use your 944 as a first car and others track them, which may add cost (certainly the latter). So guess its all relative. Whatever, I'm still enjoying ownership.
 
I use my car every day clocking up about 7 - 8 k miles a year and in the past 2 yrs of ownership (out of 4) I have spent alot of money on my car - however it was for the brake upgrde and KW suspension, which I suppose you could argue is not essential - so taking that out of the equation the car has just cost me petrol, insurance, servicing and tax. I have done some pro-active maintenance work on it such as dizzy cap, rotor arm and HT lead replacement and a few other minor bits and bobs but so far, and hoping i'm not tempting fate by saying this, it has been uber-reliable.

It all depends on how much you drive the car. You are likely in your period of ownership to get some big bills, I had a belt replacement and a few repairs for oil leaks, clutch master cylinger and a dodgy alternator within my first two years of ownership, but in my latter two i've been just driving it, so on a cost per mile basis i'd say my running costs are roughly comparable with an average family car. Another reason to drive the car as much as possible. These things don't like lying around idle. A car that isn't used much will be more troublesome than a car used regularly. That is one of the overriding things i've gleaned over the past 4 yrs of ownership and reading about various peoples experiences on this and other forums. Use it or loose it!! Garage queens give these cars a bad name!
 
Had my S2 for about 5 months now and its cost me nearly £2500. 12K service, fuel lines, brake lines, cam chain tensioner blades and chain, belts and pulleys, clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder.

Having said that driving my favourite bends makes it all seem worth it!
