What Oil do you use?

more information would be good...

how is the car used? high annual mileage or just occasional use?
do you do any trackdays?
what oil is in there now?
what sort of oil usage do you see? (litres/1000miles)
what oil pressures do you see at hot idle and at 4k rpm?
what's the mileage on the car?

the we can have a more informed argument & you can choose from one of several different opinions

Phone opie oils. They are amazing, they will advise the best oil dependent upon use. I think I run a Fuchs pro s 10/50 ester based synthetic, not too expensive either but a great oil

Not this can of worms again! I am still unsure as to what I should use.

My specialist recommended 10W60. The Mobil 1 10W60 seems to be fine in my car :). I was originally going to go with either 5W40, 5W50 or a generic 10W40.

Wait until Ed comes back off his trip, he is an "oil junkie" and will give you his very well informed opinion, just put Fuchs/Silkolene Titan R 10/40 semi in my cars.

Mobile 10/60 for me. Still not easyly found at petrol stations but prob easyer 2 find should u get caught out

I think anything from a 5 or 10w/40/50/60 is fine.
Personally a 15w or 20w is too thick from cold to circulate efficiently. Especially in a turbo.

So in answer to you question - yes a 10/40 or a 5/40 usually

I wouldn't ask Opies oils opinion. I quite like the firm, but you don't have to look too hard to see some terrible advice offered for Frontrunners in the past.

They rely on manufacturers recommendations and Mobil were recommending (and probably still are) 0W-30 for the 924S!

Rather than retype the whole of the identical thread that we had two months ago on the same subject, here it is...

I have used Valvoline Racing VR1 20W50 dino oil for years. That brand seems to be the most popular oil among Porsche (old ones) users here in Finland. I even use that oil during winter on my old Subaru without any difficulties. I am sure winters here up north are a bit more harsh what you guys have down there south. I just don't like those watery like synthetic oils.

I'm with olli. Valvoline racing VR1 20W50. Recently switched back after briefly putting in a cheapish 10w40 over the winter. Noticeable change in oil pressure when hot. 20w50 is OK for above freezing according to the manual.
