Ahh I see. I agree, conventional auto/tip vs PDK, the PDK will win every time. I suppose it would be the case that any 911 turbo in any flavour shouldn't fail to impress unless the driver has a screw or two loose. My old 944 turbo scared the jazreebers out of me on many occasions and after driving with a mate with a 996 turbo I could see that a 996 turbo was a couple of leagues ahead of the 944 turbo - so hence my current desire for a 911 turbo!! I love the GT3 for its purity and its ability to be such a good compromise for both track and street, but surely even the most hardened GT3 lover should admit it is only a car for those who are after that track/race feel with priority over street? For those interested in a high performance car for the street then you surely can't beat a 911 turbo?ORIGINAL: tscaptainNo, Scott they are not that bad - pretty good actually (and allegedly faster on sprint times), but I was spoilt by having a PDK before I tried a 997 turbo tip. In comparison the tip seemed half asleep and so much slower on the butttons. Thus I figured I would prefer PDK, manual and tip in that order cos I loved my manual Gen 1 C2S short shift also.  But, as ever, each to their own and PP needs to try all the variations[]ORIGINAL: sawood12 Why do you say give the tip a miss?

Gee thanks.....I hate spanners!! Have driven a few Boxters though not PDK granted! They are great and very very responsive however.......I just don't get the same level of assurance and stability that I get from the 911. I think I prefer the car under me to be that little bit heavier... Spyderman....it was a good shout and thanks! PP

Well...........................OMG, OMG, OMG.......went to test drive a Turbo 996 this afternoon...... So what can I say other than "slick daddy" and OMG, OMG, OMG!! I can tell you , well at least those of you that have been helping me decide, that I have decided.... [] and my decision is.... if I buy it , I will not be able to enjoy it for too long....if I don't get arrested I will for sure wrap it round a tree , chuck it over a bridge , or just kill myself.....in other words I just simply cannot trust myself to drive it sensibly so I can't have it..... WOW.... And then got back into mine, drove home (40 mins) and spanked it all the way [].......hence reality check that I cannot be trusted...... PP......may need to change to a Micra......
LOL. The 911 Turbo - do you dare to tame the beast?[]

Honestly I would kill myself in it....I simply cannot drive it on the road and be sensible....it's not gonna happen......and now I want to give up work and be a rally driver!!! PP is wondering what part of "your not a boy racer" she did not understand.......
A lot of Turbos were spec'd with Tiptronic, so there should be plenty to choose from. Drove one last year and can see the appeal. Not as engaging as a manual GT3, but probably easier to live with everyday and whatever the weather. Vividly fast though. 0-12 points in the blink of an eye[:-]

This beast was TIP and a cab too so had roof down and exhaust sounded bad! Agree about 0 to 12 hence me being totaly realistic and saying I can't trust myself!! [] Thanks for your thoughts though....good to know you agree about the speed PP
Yeah but you can do 0-12 just as easily in the current one! Turbos are muted - it's the turbos! However, there is some merit in not announcing your arrival on the scene from 1/2 mile away.[] Training/instruction/improvement of skill levels is the answer - more control of the car and yourself!![]

Ditto I meant just test drive them and see....... which youve done.......was the difference a bit scary the first time oh were you just screaming with delight You do calm down after a while, you tend to just do the mad accelerating bit upto just over the speed limit, used to love the on ramps onto motorways, the thrill of overtaking is fantastic though it scares the other drivers about you as you can overtake anything given a reasonable space. Ooohh and when its dark the speed cameras are asleep(except fixed of course) Never had a speeding ticket in either turbo just invest in a decent satnav with all the speed camera locations and you can always play safe once you have 6 points. and you can always go mad on track days. The phrase " go for it girl" springs to mindORIGINAL: unclewinks You only live once PP Paul

For those of you who have been so helpful with advice and views I think I've got it now! A decision that is! Its just going to be a 997 on this occasion and I have found one I love. Quick question ......Sports exhaust....my 996 has one and I just love the sound.. the 997 does not have one on at the moment....I'd like to get the dealer to put one on, for those that have one on their 997, your thoughts please? PP
You know my thoughts but for the record yes, do it![] Look forward to seeing you at some 997 register events in the near future especially if you can bringORIGINAL: PenelopePitstop Quick question ......Sports exhaust....my 996 has one and I just love the sound.. the 997 does not have one on at the moment....I'd like to get the dealer to put one on, for those that have one on their 997, your thoughts please?
Definitely go for the official Porsche Switchable Exhaust - best sound, and you can switch it off in the early morning/late night so as not to annoy your neighbours (as you know from your existing car) - defo one of the best 911 upgrades !ORIGINAL: PenelopePitstop Quick question ......Sports exhaust....my 996 has one and I just love the sound.. the 997 does not have one on at the moment....I'd like to get the dealer to put one on, for those that have one on their 997, your thoughts please?
