What petrol?

Can I ask if anyone here regularly uses BP Ultimate (97 RON) or Tesco 99? And if so any problems?

I normally use Shell V-Power (99 RON) in my Turbo (which is remapped to 98 RON) however my local Shell station is closed for at least a few months and the station next closest is more often than not out of V-Power.

I have both a BP and Tesco down the road but I am reluctant to use Tesco 99 as it's part bioethanol or BP Ultimate as it's a lower RON than my car is remapped to run on.

I am leaning towards Tesco 99 but I have heard some people have had engine problems after running on this. I know these guys did a test a while ago and found Tesco 99 to be the best.

Can anyone please share their experiences?

I have used Tesco 99 for most of my 15k miles, admittedly in a Cayman 2.7 not a Turbo, and have had no problems.

I will use Shell whenever possible but as we don't have a local station whenever I need to fill up locally I always use Tesco, in both my current car and my previous C2S Cab and it has always been fine, I read a test report a while ago in I think EVO and Tesco 99 came out very well which is why I tend to use in preference to BP.

well, i have run all my Porsches on Tescos (as its my only local garage) including the 9974S with no problems what so ever. i have noticed that the 997 definatly runs smoother with super unleaded than with the standard stuff which nearly all my other cars have been more than happy with.

Like Geoff I would always fill with V-Power given a choice. Second choice would be Tesco 99 - I ran my Scoob on that with no problems at all. Third choice would be Ultimate - although slightly lower octane it comes out well in tests I believe. I hope our local Shell Station has re-stocked with V-Power before the SW Drive!!

I've just been told not to use 99 ron from tesco's as it is only 97 with a additive,Either shell if you can get it or bp

don't know who told you that but its complete rubbish.

Well Tesco's has got 5% bioethanol in it which has an octane rating of 135 so that can't be bad![;)] Doesn't have the friction reducing additive of V-Power as far as I can see but as a second choice I wouldn't have any qualms about using it.

I buy Shell V-Power for my Boxster - failing that, I'd go for BP. After all the problems with Tesco petrol, and them flatly denying there was anything wrong with it, I'll buy my RONs elsewhere.

All 997's are tuned to run on 98ron fuel (well gen2's)and will automatically detect lower ron fuel, so it won't cause any issues.

Just buy 95 RON and stick some of this in with it, then you should get 102![:D]

Like the majority here, I'll stop at a Shell out of preference(much to my wifes annoyance [&:])
However I did fill with Tesco 99 recently and have had no problems, in fact according to my wife it gave better results - as in Tesco clubcard points [;)]

Exeter OPC have needed to change 6 fuel pumps on 997's - all running Tescos fuel.

Alex,

BP Ultimate is fine - it's all that is available in this neck of the woods - it's clean running fuel with a stabilised octane rating.

Clive

Oo er! What cause? Contamination? Recently or a while ago? If it's that hazardous I'm surprised they didn't send out a warning to owners! Didn't they have a problem with silicon contamination a while back?

as I said I was told not to use it along with morrison's and sainsbury's,Also was told by a revo technician,One because of contamination and two there is not much lubricant in the fuel, even with there diesel, friends of ours just had a bill of £460 to sort out her truck, diesel contaminated with petrol,no come backs with tesco, they just said"It's never happened before"surprise surprise.

I'm not sure the cause was fully identified, but failures occurred over a longish period with the only common factor being each owner regularly filled up with Tesco fuel.

They did warn customers - that's how I know! [8|]

Perhaps Wayne at Exeter OPC would be able to provide more info.

I've used Tesco 99 for 5 years now, first in my 996 C2 and now in the 997 TT and never once had a problem.........

Wondering if the high costs of V-Power (143p ish) is causing 997 owners to switch to 95 RON regular?

Never happen for my Turbo, but given how thirsty my Audi is, I may go regular soon.
