What petrol?

Same as most on here, I try to only use Shell V-Power in my Turbo. If I can't find a Shell then my second choice is BP Ultimate. Between Shell and BP, you should be able to find at least one.

+1 on that. But it was the price rather than the availability that Alex was questioning and nothing but the best for mine - whatever the price. It's interesting (!) to see how much 10000 miles costs these days in petrol alone though. At 23 mpg that's around 440 gallons or close to 2000 litres @ £1.43 = £2840 - yikes![&:] Makes the servicing costs every two years look very reasonable!

I've found Tesco 99 to be 'fine' in my Cayman S, however, it does run better on V Power. If you only use Tesco 99, try filling up from empty with V Power and see if you notice a difference. If you mix a considerable amount of each in the tank you won't notice a difference. I only use V Power now after noticing the car ran better (the acceleration felt more urgent and free) and I wasn't looking for a difference. I just happened to be filling up from empty on V Power.

I've only ever used Tesco 99, been faultless !

Saying that, I think with big horsepower engines it does become more difficult to tell slight differences in performance when you get up to a certain level.

I buy it more for the better fuel economy than marginal performance difference.

I don't think the odd top up of 95 Octane does much harm, but with a turbo, I would tend to avoid full tanks of the stuff - it's better mixed.

95 Octane won't damage the motor, since anti-knock sensors detect lower fuel grades and retard ignition automatically. However, this does adversely affect performance and I'm not sure how long the ECU learning cycle takes before it reverts to normal once high grade fuel is reinstated. It used to be about 2-3 tankfulls, I seem to recall.

Interestingly, Ferrari advised 95 was fine for use in 430's (including the Scud), although I always tended towards 97-98 where available.

Personally, I try to avoid supermarket brands if at all possible as some fuel pump failures have been attributued to cars being regularly filled up at such sites. [&:]

Clive.

Alex

I am with Clive - your any my car were tuned to take best advantage of Super Unleaded but will happily run on unleaded as an emergency top up to a partial SU tank.

The 2 Super Unleaded fuels that consistently come out well in test are V-Power and BP. So I go for Shell when ever I can, fall back preference is BP. The others only at need.

If you drive a lot on V power you notice the difference.

My RS6 technically can only go up to 95 RON, but I notice a huge difference in increased engine smoothness if I use V-power. It won't give me any extra power though as the timing cannot adapt upwards of 95 (it can go down to 91 though) - unlike a 997 Porsche. My Turbo though is specifically tuned/re-mapped to run on 98 RON, so would never put in 95 unless in dire straights.

But if the price keeps going up on V-Power then I may start using 95 in my Audi more regularly...

Hi Alex, I always use Tesco Momentum 99 in my 997 Turbo- never had any problems.
