What Seat

Do the later cars still have the seat belt holes in the transmission tunnel like on the early models as the seat belts are on this rather than the seat as it would be very easy to just fit some early seat belts

Thanks for your comments guys. In the end, I'm afraid I spent the money on something else.

Beware however that anyone I spot with a non standard seat will be dragged from their car in order that I may plant my bum in it and see how if fits. I haven't given up the quest, just postponed the inevitable.

What did I spend the money on (+ a bit more and then some) :-

What's a BG-E2 for?

I just ordered a Sigma 10-20mm ultra-wide zoom today. I suspect it's only a matter of time before I get a D80,

...... are you happy with the IS lens, John ? ... [:-]

Can't say at the moment as it only arrived yesterday and I've been a poorly boy recently - suffice to say I dare not risk a fart... [] ....and lack of food means I don't have enough energy to lift the beast [;)]. I'm seemingly on the mend now so should get some serious shooting in tomorrow I hope.

The BG-E2 is a battery grip, holds two standard Canon batteries or 6 AA batteries and acts as a grip with additional shutter release button for vertical shooting.

I am a bit sceptical about IS and it was a toss up between the 24-105 f4L IS and the 24-70 f2.8.L As the 24-105 got runner up in the Practical Photography Lens of the Year that swayed it.

I've always had Canon cameras, started with an AE1, but if I were starting from scratch I would be very tempted by Nikon now. This is not because the Canon pro bodies are 1D.. and Nikons are D2.. so 1 bigger [;)]

So far I have been very taken with the 30D compared to my 10D. Canon seem to have included all of the features that were missing on the 10D. As all of my shots are now in RAW printed via the PC there are a few facilities which are unnecessary for me but would be great if you were printing or sending files directly from the camera.

I have a Sigma 17-35 f2.8-4 EX lens which, theoretically, should give good images. So far I have been very underwhelmed with it. On the 10D it seems to short focus, but I am hoping the improvements of the 30D should see the lens realise its full potential - otherwise it will be replaced with another Canon L series lens.

Should we be starting a new thread for this? [;)]

Yes perleez [&o]

Me, I`m gonna wedge my *rse in loadsa seats at the autosport show so I know what to buy when I get around to fitting them [:)]

You can always come and photo the fun if you want? You might need a wider angle lens after my food and drink consumption over the xmas period.[:D]

Way off topic............

This guy (resized from NEF) was charging, shot backwards @ 95 mm from the Landrover doing a getaway ... [:-]

Where were you in SA - I went to a game reserve and got charged but the landrover would not start ......Ranger clicked his fingers and the elephant snapped out of it and wandered off... have a nice shot of the testosterone that was coming from the elephants ears.

My film SLR is an Olympus OM10 dating back about 25 years. Nothing I had back then was suitable for digital so there was no reason to stay Olympus.

I've got a D50 which I bought it to dip my toe in with a DSLR, although I went out to buy a 350D, but that particular Canon was a little small for my hands and the Nikon a better size as well as cheaper. Now the D80 is out I fancy some of the extra features it has. I almost bid on a D2X on eBay over Chrimbo, but I haven't looked at the D200. To be honest though the D50 is enough for me at the moment and it's just the gadget freak in me that wants something more.

I have 2 Nikon kit lenses (18-55 and 55-200) and I bought a Sigma 70-300 which I'm happy with. The 10-20mm gets good reviews from all quarters including magazines and Ben Lovejoy so hopefully it will be all I want it to be.

Sorry for the OT, Paul; I'm done with photography talk unless someone does start a new thread. BTW you tried a Corbeau Sprint XL when you drove my car.

Me? I got a Fuji summat ................... 5 million of them pesky pixel thingys..............................point and shoot

Mind you I used to be one of those people with a big ally suitcase full of SLR and telephoto lenses as long as a tree branch that for years I used to lug around Le Mans, Brands Hatch and Silverstone following Porsche in the Gp 5 and 6 races and the then Gp A B & C races 100km and 6hr races

Me and a mate of mine have hundreds of piccies of Triumph Spitfires Morgans et al on track with works Martini Porsches, Lancias and Renaults.

Jackie Ickx on full chat and with gear change flame outs through the trees at the back of Brands is never to be forgotten.......................

The many varied categories of car with such power differentials on track at the same time will never be seen again.

Thanks for the link Dave (it only worked for me when I went for the core address?). It is a shame they are in Manchester otherwise I might have planted my bum in some of their seats.

What's that got to do with photography any way? [;)]

I've looked at the D200 now; it is very nice. I think it'll be one of them I'll be having to upgrade from the D50 at some point. Just to keep me on topic, I'll take some photos of seats when I get one [;)]

Not that it makes any odds but the D200 was runner up to the 30D in Digital Photo and Practical Photography "Gear of the Year 2006". In the same magazine they reviewed the 30D along side the D80 - the D80 got Testers Choice due to a higher pixel count and price. They compared the D200 with the 5D - D200 got Best Buy and the 5D Testers Choice but then it is twice the price. How they arrived at Gear of the Year I have no idea. I have noticed that a year ago all the photo mag hacks used Canon where as now anyone holding a camera seems to have a Nikon?

I am a great believer in throwing away all magazines and reviews as soon as you buy a piece of technology and not read anything else there after. This way you remain content with your choice. This theory goes straight down the toilet if you know Rick Cannell as, be it camera kit or shiny tuning products, he will also put something better in your hand just to tempt you.

Obviously Canon handles contrast, and noise, far better than Nikon so is a much better camera for photographing car seats.
