what to buy?

Actually being a bit hard on estates as I often prefer them to saloons - audi's, MG, skoda etc. But I do have a Nissan Partrol already that is fairly cavernous in the rear.

I quite fancy a Cerbera. (and hadn't checked prices on early ones just in case [;)] )

I would also like something severnesque at some point, my old man rebuilt a BDA egnined lotus 7 for someone when I was about 11. I seem to remember the final finishing took around a year so it got a lot of use - entertaining I remember our new next door neighbour coming up to is about 5 years later and discussing how hw had seen it sideways for about 300yds. [:D]. This should be in addition to the Porsche though. My brother has a rwd toyota corolla sitting in the garage (16v twin cam LSD) this would make a far superior base to a locost than a mk2 escort. Unfortunately their suitability for drifting seems to have pushed the values up, so cutting it up is not really viable.

A bike I would like but it would end with me and the bike in little pieces.

I also quite like turbo saabs but 300bhp sounds like around 100 too many for the front wheels.

So if my 944 was stolen and there were no replacements it might have to be a blackpool rocket and an RAC membership.

Cheers,
Tony

On the track, on a dry day, they are better than sex.

On the road, in traffic, you are so low that mini's look scary (mini cars not mini skirts - mini skirts look very nice). You spend all of your time worrying if the car along side has seen you and is about to drive into the side of you at every roundabout you come to. They as so good that you are always looking for space to give them a squirt and the space is so infrequent that the whole experience s very disheartening.

On track days, you wouldn't want to get sideways as, should an M3 come around the corner, the first thing he is going to hit is your shoulder.

From a man who had a "Caterfield" for many years, they are best left to your dreams. But then I can say "....been there, seen it, done it!" and wouldn't have changed it for anything. I still miss "Sluggy" desperately and regret selling him more than anything I've ever sold. [:(][:(][:(]

What about a Scooby? Not a Porsche I know but awesome performers with handling to match, 4 doors, big boot and family friendly[:)]

Sorry Jeff, but I have to disagree. All the character of a Nissan Bluebird mini-cab, nothing special performance, prodigious thirst for SUL fuel, not great handling so much as predictable (they are hideous understeerers), panels so thin they dent if you rest your eyes too heavily on them, Chav-tastic image, tendency toward piston slap at only 50k miles, worst dealers I have ever encountered (and I have had both a SEAT and an Alfa) etc. etc.

I do speak from experience rather than bigotry or bias too - I had an RB5 at one point, traded at just over 3 years old / 52k miles and in need of an engine rebuild.

Just realised that was your sirst post - sorry. Welcome along, please don't let my Scooby-hating scare you off.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the suggestion but I have driven a scooby too (bug eyed) for a few thousand miles and whilst its not bad I found it a little too easy to drive, my wife as a passenger even commenting you could feel the front wheels pulling it straight when out of shape. Despite having around 270bhp (prodrive upgrade) it also felt pedestrian compared to my 944t (then around 260bhp) - suprising as they are made out of very thin metal in places as Fen pointed out [;)] I gues the transmission robs a lot o the power.

LMFAO, hey its all about opinions and thanks for the welcome, now you mentioned it though...............

No character? even with its monster rally legend? so what earns charachter in your eyes?
Nothing special performance? STi in bog-standard trim with bust 5 secs to 60, quicker than any standard 944 model? I am open to correction of course............

Not great handling, can't think of many better if I am honest, again the rally breeding.

I was actually referring to the new models not the crude, rattly classic ones LOL I have a 53 reg myself now and it is far from thin panelled, Subaru have really got their act together with the blob-eye model which replaced the failed bug-eye, IMHO anyway and even have a decent cabin.

I am a Porsche lover and trader though so appreciate your comments and reluctance to be anything but Porsche through and through[:)]

Nice place you got here too.............

Jeff

Jeff , good mate of mine has an 04 plate and was stupid enough [;)] to hand me the keys and I have to say I thought the performance was what I would expect and the handling superb barring a little understeer , the interior was quite fresh but when parking it up and looking at it from the outside it just doesnt cut the mustard with me at all - its just so in your face but hey that's the idea with the car.

Cheers
Chris

Well, admittedly I haven't even looked closely at the current one so you might well be right about some of it, but I doubt character. Racing heritage isn't the same thing, I mean character when you drive it - something almost impossible to define and I suspect missing from all Japanese cars, MX5 possibly excluded.

Anyway, if we were all the same the place would be no fun - some people even like Boxsters after all [8D]
