What was a Super car ?

With this regard the 959 is essentially a modified 911 with an ugly bodykit and as dull from the inside (*) as any air-cooled 911 can get, regardless how fast it can go.

For me the Carrera GT is simply not outrageous enough. How can you consider it in the same league as the Pagani Zonda or the Murchiellago for example? It may be as quick if not quicker, but it's too 'normal'. Too much like a Boxster on steroids. The average Joe Bloggs who isn't into cars at all might see a Carrera GT pootling down the road and probably wouldn't bat an eyelid, but if he saw the Pagani he'd know it was something out of the ordinary. I think that is the point i'm trying to get to and in my mind what sets true Supercars apart.

I personally dont believe aesthetics is all a supercar needs to be called one? On that basis however I will concede a few points. I love the Koenigsegg (spelling??)

Me?........I personally have always considered what constitutes a 'supercar' is based upon on its dynamics, eg: whatever I`m driving I only see it from the inside anyway. The 944 for me is a bit of an ugly duckling from the rear BUT its what it does that counts. What about older cars? Lambo`s, `raris, Masers, De Tomaso, Iso`s

Anyone (i.e. me) who stood about 3 feet from that guy the other year at Eynsham who blatted up the drive in his CGT could never ever say the CGT is not a supercar. It has quite easilly the best sounding engine of ANY super car ever, and I know. I have been overtaken whilst cycling by 2 different generations of V12 Ferrari, also about 2 foot from a murcielago in similar circumstances. This type of situation is the closest you can get to hearing just how amazing those cars sound. prior to the CGT my favourite sound was the classic V12 Ferrari sound, although the madness of the murcielago is very attractive.

I agree!

If Porsche had done a road going 917, with 1000 BHP, now that WOULD have been a supercar![:D][8D][:)][;)]
You should check out the "Schuppan" road going le mans cars!! Built near Maidenhead, Vern Schuppan the Porsche lemans winner released them......but they went bust!! One car got built and shipped to Japan, another was kicking about as a demo and "disappeared" in the liquidation IIRC!

Awesome tool though!

For me a Supercar is about the sense of occasion and the detail of the engineering.

Ferrari 288 GTO anyone, or Pagani Zonda F?

Still love my little 944 though..[:D]

I

That's the one!!

I have a brochure for it, signed by Vern himself!! Nice enough fella! I was the guy that dealt with his bankruptcy!! He had a few 959s kicking about IIRC!
