What's happening with Mr Empson's machine?

Forgive me for being slow, but I don't think I have seen any reports from Mr Empson on the progress of his supercharged erm .... Lux / S2 / Turbo *.

How is it? Is it on the road? Did all the rust cut out OK? Did the front bumper fit? Does the supercharger produce booooooooost?

We need answers, man!

Oli.

You must have missed his resonse last week when I asked about it. He's struggling to find oil for the supercharger, which I guess means it is a lttle way off from running.

You should have just checked out the website listed in his signature, he keeps it pretty much up to date:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/944lux/

Last post was a month ago when he was asking about harness fitment to his freshly painted rollcage. I am hoping the next update will show everything painted, then it's just the myriad of little bits and bobs that will have to be refitted [8|]

Then it will be up to the guys at RPM to get his supercharger going [8D][8D][8D]

Hi Oli, as Fen and Paul say it's still away and it's now over 10 months since it went in. I've been very busy at work for the last few weeks so have taken my eye off the ball somewhat, but am going to visit the car next Sunday and if there's any exciting progress I'll do another update to the site. At the current rate I think it'll be finished within a couple of months or so, ready to be tucked away in a garage until spring []. Whether we do the SC sooner or later I'm not sure, but I have to plumb in the piggyback first which I'll only do it when the weather is nice.

The colour I chose had been causing me some concern (as I hadn't seen a car in it for such a long time) but the other day I found the picture below on another forum which has put my mind at rest. The colour I've chosen (Glacier White) is on the far left, even the current Carrara white (far right) isn't quite as vivid, so I'm well chuffed [:D]

Chaps,

Thanks - no, I hadn't seen any recent updates, hence the question!

Struggling to find oil for the supercharger? The supercharger has it's own oil supply then? Interesting. With it's own oil pump as well? I'd assumed (wrongly, clearly!) that it would rub from a spur from the oil pump - possibly off an existing gallery. Does the supercharger have it's own sump as well then? Sounds like quite a lot more of a piece of engineering than just a rubber-band-driven-hairdryer! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: It's a standard solution you bought tho' isn't it? Designed for a 968, from the US. Surely the S/C manufacturer can supply some oil?

I'm clearly a luddite as I can't see the difference in those whites - sorry Peter! Perhaps it's 'cos I am using a very old lappie (hence very old screen) at the mo ... []

All the best with the rest of the project. Hope those little bits and bobs don't take the age they usually do ...

Oli.

Did you consider just base white, with no tint wahtsoever? I saw something painted in that a while back (forget what) and it was awesome, retina-searing pure white.

The Procharger superchargers are self contained units which is one of their most appealing traits from an ease of installation point of view, although I know when 9M developed their own kit they went away from this design which to me suggests this may cause some of the cooling issues I've heard about. The SC manufacturer didn't want to sell the oil direct when I asked them last time, they wanted me to use a vendor (understandably none of whom seemed interested in only a $100 sale) although I notice they've now added an online shop so I'll give them another try. The firm that made the kit still owes me a part and caused so much hassle I'm not tempted to give them a dollar more.

Fen, after you mentioned base white I certainly considered it, but by that time I'd pretty much settled on the Glacier white and having seen the latter in the flesh knew I liked it. I also like the icy cold blue tint that this colour has and find there's something nice about it being a relatively rare Porsche colour too.

Not to mention the name. Glacier is the best colour.[;)][:D]

I wasn't sure if I suggested it before or not.

Typing difficult - I broke my arm about 7 hours ago [:(]

Sorry to hear that Fen. How's the NZ Healthcare System? Compared with the NHS ...

Hope you recover soon. I guess it's in plaster at the mo (applied by the same people who told you it was broken.) What did you do to it?

Oli.

Peter have you tried people like Jabbasport or Pitstop developments? I have used both of these in the past and have been very helpful.

Running HDMI and cat 5 through the ceiling for home entertainment distribution the ladder slipped on the wooden floor when I was coming down and I broke the lump of my left elbow off on the edge of the loft hatch. It could have been worse as I'm right handed and the drop was 3 metres. Temp plaster for now, find out later if it needs opration to pin it or just better plaster.

Prescriptions apparently cost $3 here (about £1.15) and complusory accident insurance run by the government (by means of employer and other insurance levy) take care of the costs.

Sounds nasty Fen, do you have a verdict on whether it needs an op yet?

Thanks for the links Tom, I hadn't discovered them as I'd just been searching for Procharger agents, but I think they could well come in useful esepecially if I ever need to get it rebuilt.

Peter, Id be very interested to hear how much your bonnet cost? Im about to buy a GRP part, but I wonder if Id be tempted. Perhaps just the first figure...

I can't remember the exact figure Simon, I bought it with some other panels so got a bit of a deal. I think it was somewhere in the region of £700-800 inc vat. Mine is the road spec one so you'd probably want a lighter version without the bracing for your car. As mine was my only car at the time I really couldn't be arsed to lift the whole bonnet off every couple of days just to check the oil level...

Thank you. I was afraid that itd start with a 7: the GRP bonnet will start with a 1..... I would need a road weight part too; 'race weight' GRP bonnets are so flimsy that they lift badly in the middle, even with four bonnet pins, so Id expect similar from a CF part without bracing.

I do like the look of the CF replacement sunroof as well, but I dont have a sunroof. [;)]

Just back from hospital. Getting pins and wires on Thursday afternoon.

Ooooh dear. Not funny, Fen. Sorry to hear that. Hope the recuperation goes well - I expect you'll be pretty damned sore afterwards ...

Any work implications? (As in, you are contracting - non? - will you lose the current contract?)

Oli.

Ouch [&o] - hope your recovery goes swiftly.

If it doesn't work out then at least with the pins and wires you'll be able to make a living as a full sized marionette [:D]
