What's it worth ?

Values are simple to me.

They are what YOU think they are worth to YOU.

If you are trying to guess what YOU think the MARKET thinks its worth then its a waste of time unless you are a dealer as its their job to find a value as of now - but they base their opinions on net margins, speed of sale, potential customers etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

Whenever anyone comes up with yet another valuation thread I just say what I would spend on such a car. Not what I think anyone else thinks its worth as to be honest lots of people say I think its worth 'X' but would they spend their own 'X' on that car....would they hell!!!

So a restored, non-original panel (guessing accident damaged at some point) but excellent RS with NO service history at all is probably worth circa 40k to me to have a good time in.

If its a complete dog that needs restoring (prob 10-15k if needs previous damage doing properly, repainting, parts etc) then its circa 40k less whatever it costs to get it to that standard. Its not rocket science.[8|]

So ask yourself would you spend 40k on an unkown foreign RS with no service history, non original panel car etc or would you save another 10k or so and get a known quantity with service history to boot...?

For me the margin between the unkown quantity and the known quantity has to be much greater to justify buying something like this for say 40k....unless as I say its a fully restored minter....because over time you can build history and the quality of the car will always stand up to scrutiny if its minty (not the colour).

I think I best refrain from posting my personal opinions on values in future. It seems I get quoted 10x more than anyone else. []

Yes i like to instigate sensible, feet on the ground debate and of course I throw you all the occasional line as I know you all bite....but its not my fault you bought a gaylord car colour now is it[;)][;)]

Who would have thought the 964RS Register forum, the most active, fun and lively PCGB forum(especially to non-members[:)]) would slowly deteriorate into being duller than the 930 Turbo owner posters on Pistonheads with 85% of all posts being about car values.....[;)]

Anyway off for an all you can eat carvery - £3.65. THAT'S VALUE!! Bet you soft southern pooftas cannot get that at your local[:D][:D][:D]

Wrt to getting bored with talking about values - normally I would agree but I wasn't looking to talk values up or down since I was genuinely looking for a steer so that I could bid appropriately, maybe next time I'll just email Des directly.

Ah guys, you've upset Talat now!!

Indeed, I'm a sensitive soul [:D]

PS car has now been sold - although if I'd thought that I could have got it for anywhere near £45K things might have been different.

Errrrr if you keep on getting stuck in to the all you can eat Jason there will be nothing lightweight about your fix [:D]

Being a soft southern poofta has its advantages occasionally.

Jason, I agree [;)] --- no need to feel beaten up this time !

The interesting idea for me is that you can gradually rebuild the provenance of a car that has had to have some top quality remedial work done, I guess because in time, most of them will need it .... and I would guess that £10-15k also will be about right. Certainly race-cars can be re-shelled many times ...

To add some levity [:D], I have a friend call Guy Shirm who was invited to Korea to to some seminars. With the usual Eastern precision he was bundled off his flight via a steamy taxi straight into a fairly packed and definitely very hot conference hall ...

The (by then) very red faced Mr Shirm was then introduced as "Mr Gay Shrimp from the UK" !!! [:D][:D]

Hard to know who you are aiming gaylord colours at? Fits many of us on here[:D]. Anyway, I guess I picked up on what you said, as I disagreed on the lower limit of the market, which I think is a little low......... Anyway, I guess this time of year, there isnt much else going on. My recent RS activity consists of a 12k service, which was uneventful.....they didnt even pick anything up! So that leaves internet browsing, I'm afraid.......I'll get quieter once the season kicks off, less time on my hands, and more interesting stuff to talk about I guess.[&:]
