I think Porsche paint is Glasurit (the can with the parrot on it). Sometimes refered to as Parrot Paint but don't try painting your Granny's parrot with it - not a good finish unless you prepare the parrot for painting! Find a reputable bodyshop near you as Paul says, they have their reputation to uphold. Cheers,

This is accident time of the year when the roads start to get dodgy. I dont wish to appear brash or clever but I ALWAYS have an agreed value on my hobby cars. To not have one is daft as they will refer to the trade guides for 20 year old cars and give you nothing and will write them off far too quickly. When claiming I highly recommend: 1) A club valuation is money in the bank. They wont dispute it. If they do tell them to ring the club. The club will promote the value they gave and have records of many similar cars. 2) Find adverts of cars like yours with good asking prices and compile a portfolio of them to give to the assessors so they cannot argue about costs and are less likely to write the cars off.
 
When I was crashed into last year, the valuation guy (Direct Line) was nice and very fair - I quoted a few prices of cars I'd seen and their condition, a few adverts on the internet etc., then why I thought mine was worth more. He looked around online, and agreed with me. He offered me a sum to fix it, or to write it off if I preferred. I took it to my local Porsche approved body shop, and they flat out lied to me about parts prices (quoted £800 + for a new front wing), but said they could just about do it for a bit over the agreed amount. In the end, I took it to an insurer approved body shop (small local independent) as the valuer had a problem with the Porsche place, and they did a great job, for a bit less money I think though DL paid them direct. (I posted some pics a while ago). The guy told me the front wing cost £400. The only problem was that the passenger door wouldn't unlock from the outside afterwards. But yes, I wouldn't bother with a specialist Porsche place as you will pay through the nose and not necessarily get better service; and (touch wood) agreed value wasn't important for me as the valuer knew his stuff and was prepared to listen to me then check what I'd said. Good luck Peanut, it's a pain. (Just now got my first flat tyre on the car, and that's a pain too, but hopefully a trip to Kwik Fit tomorrow should sort it out more quickly than body repairs!) Watch thast they jack the car up in the right place. Plenty of owners have had sticking throttles after visits to Kwik Fit. [&o]
 
I'll chip in again ... I took mine to the Porsche place because I thought they would do the best possible job. As it was, I'm not sure why; when I bumped the front of mine (not my fault) and first needed it repaired I took it to the Porsche place and while they did a lovely job, the paint match made it look like a 944 Harlequin. (For those who don't know the Polo Harlequin, it looks like this:

) I think (hope) the rest of their workmanship is OK, but won't be going back there again - and certainly wouldn't spend my own money there. Oli.
 
1- get to the docs, compalin of headaches, etc NOW .... 2-phone the driver ask him if you get 2 quotes , is he willing to save his no claims & pay for the damage to yours at a reasonable cost. If he dont go the whole hog, get a claim in to his insurance , DONT call yours , CALL HIS.. dont loose ya no claims. Use his insurnce Get injuries ............get the lot, if he done cough up... It may pay for the whole car FREE !! & time off work & a hol to boot [:D] I been driving 25 year x £320 average p/y THATS £8 000.00 A very nice car !!!!!!!!! Lets face it , INS companies rip us off for years , FK em.

NNNooooooooooooooooooooooo.................. Dont let an underpaid spotty part time oik near your car. They tried to jack my 944T up under the accelerator pedal and gearbox the only time I used them to swap `tinternet purchased wheels and later another depot dented my sons sills in 4 places on his Polo GTi on a swing arm car lift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the same week at yet another depot one of his friends mum went down the road and a wheel practically fell off! Find a good independant or if you absolutely, genuinely, absolutely, definitely have to use them go during the week when they arent busy as you`ll find the weekend part timers etc arent there and you might find somone who actually understands what they are doing; 1) Dont let them or your car out of sight 2) DONT let them use a nut runner on alloy wheel nuts 3) Know the correct wheel nut torque (they will guess cos they cant read) 4) Check if their torque wrench has been calibrated recently 5) and finally.....Dont let the idiots torque them up AND THEN KEEP GOING AS HARD AS THEY CAN BECAUSE THEY DONT REALISE THE `CLICK` MEANS ITS TORQUED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry......................rant over.......................... Muppets, the lot of them.
 
My Boxster was hit by two cars within a relatively short time. On both occasions I was not in the car which was parked. Both of the offending drivers admitted liability and their respective insurance companies informed me that they would use their own 'approved' repairers. I advised them, very politely and reminding them that I am a Solicitor, that it was out of the question and booked the car to an OPC. Both insurers paid up, authorised the repairs via the OPC and paid for a replacement car. If you stand your ground ...

Wow! Thanks Paul! It's booked in for Tuesday, no other option really... (And to be fair, they were OK last time I used them, albeit for a Peugeot). One question though - assuming a nut runner is the compressed air wheel nut spanner jobby, what's wrong with those? My indie has always used one on my car, and I've always been able to get the wheels off again... Unless it's because he knows how to set the torque values properly?! Cheers. Yup, air hammer. Dont let them use one on alloy wheel nuts as they apply scores of small shocks to undo and do up the nuts. This has the potential to 1) create hidden fractures within the nut or 2) fracture the nut especially if they have turned grey in which case you really should change them anyway! Its ok to run the nuts off and on as the air hammer simply spins them but tightening and undoing them should be done by hand! Edited to say that if your indy simply uses an air hammer and doesnt torque them up with a calibrated torque wrench then change your indy immediately [:eek:]
 
I see, thanks. Can't remember if he used a torque wrench as well or not! (He did say that he had to torque them to a minimum of a certain value, so I assume he does...) Looks like Kwik Fit probably haven't got my tyres in time anyway due to the snow, so I may have had a lucky escape!

If the Midlanders want a tyre place to take their 944 to, I can recommend BT Tyres in Rugby. He was very careful with the alloy nuts (he told me pretty much what Hilux has said), and his prices have been reasonable too. Ask for Ross :).
