Wheel colour

I saw a nice carbon wing on Meccano supports in Chavfords yesterday that would just finish that off a treat.

You see the trouble is that you don't know the difference between crass and style. The whole point of design is being able to see, and appreciate, something without it being there in the flesh.

I know you can't admit that I'm right on the black chrome wheels but, one day, I will be vindicated. [;)]
 
While I wouldn't go for black chrome myself I see where you're coming from. It was more the graphics I was taking a pop at, and I assume they were a joke?

The 996 Anniversary had dark chrome turbo twists, remember, so it has even been a factory finish. Then again have you seen a 996 Anniversary up close? It pretty much embodies everything vulgar in finshes IMO. The wheels were the best bit (relatively speaking).

Black chrome on a black car might look quite good though.

I was having a bit of a play, but I do know this man who does vinyl graphics. I'm not counting out doing something as I'm a bit fed up with one black 944 looking like every other black 944, especially on track days.

A friend of mine had a "Carbon Fiblre" effect sticker put on his M3 roof to give him the CSL look without the cost! Looked top!

They were all the same silver originally. I'm not sure what colour it is, but Humbrol enamel (I think number 11) is fine for touching in chips.
 
Fen is right - I use Humbrol metalic silver on my wheels (same wheels as yours) and its an almost perfect match
 
Hi, There are No colour codes or information supplied for wheels on any car.
They are mostly subcontracted out and Powdercoated by other companies..

You may know? this uses 200 degree high temp paint, and not what the repair and
bodyshop use which is wet body paint.

All your franchises and even a bodyshop derived Porsche bodyshop will use a paint
that's close enough, but to be accurate there is not set recipe and code like your car body.

2 choices:

- Either have new paint put on top of the old (DIY Aerosols / Man in a Van / Bodyshop)
- Have the tyres removed, the wheels chemically stripped and all 4 powder coated.

This way all 4 will match and last long, and the painter will make up a suitable colour
which unless it's dramatically too dark or light or metallic etc... will be fine.

That's normally the tricky bit, knowing if what's on there now is original or not,
Also any new paint will look fresher and brighter and one wheel then may look different to the rest..

What condition are they in ?

Do all 4 need sorting..

They are very good condition just a like roppy by the wheel nut holes and I would be havin all 4 done I just dont want to paint them and at the next show folk going errrr they are the wrong colour, you know what some folk are like
 
Ok, I know a few Wheel restorers in the country, the nearest though would be Swindon
direction ! contact scott@ www.platinumalloys.com of you want to have a full strip resto,
or find a decent bodyshop for a front face only new paint on top of the old etc..

If the bolt holes are corroding ? or scratched up from Sockets etc...you may be better stripping them
especially if the insides re corroding too ? and the more expensive job will last longer than any cosmetic
work which if you're planning on keeping the car for a while ? is much more cost effective.

We use Powdertec in Glasgow, the colour they use for us they call Porsche Silver. Whether that is an actual recognised colour with a code, I don't know, but the results speak for themselves..

I remember your wheels Andy, they had a very fine silver fleck through them and the shade of silver was ever so slightly darker than usual but did not quite merit a refinish at the time.

We also use Spit & Polish in Tonbridge for Fuchs or anything else that requires a diamond cut and a pro finish. I would recommend either of those places, though you will have to take the wheels off and send them away to use either of those guys.
Finish with new lightweight nuts (£60 a set) and some new crested centre caps for that concours look.

I have a company here that will do them Just need to find the correct colour,

I used Spit and Polish when I had my X pax wheels done. They did a great job
