I can' t see any pics but if they are 5.5" or 6" Fuchs on a 912, satin finish all over, no paint, gets my vote. Ahh now I can see the pics, still like satin finish.

Spray them pink!! ok I have had too much wine... Detailed the way to go with the nice black satin infills

Cool I did help Alex at retro with his green 912 and he fitted fully polished nice but hmmm will need to be cleaned alot. My mate has a 54 Beetle custom with Porsche wheels and they are infilled they look the biz

Bootsy are you going to get the wheels in the speedster from Andys or is Miggs walking home [:D][:D][:D]

get the tyres takin off and they will fit on the back seat coz you wont be using them tyres will u??

I have just spent two days polishing my wheels! Darn sweaty work in this heat I can tell you. Took off each nut in turn to get a proper job done, but they do look sweet.

I think if I had the choice I would go black infill, especiallly with the slate grey and red.
Are you going to do them yourself?

Here are a couple of pics showing how the black inset could be done.

The Orange cars Fuch detail is more likely for your 12 (its a 1970 911S Targa btw)
However the red 912 has a different inset, which was an earlier pattern on the 4 1/2 67 wheels.

Not sure if this is true, but I was told once that the later deeper pattern was created by lowering the wheel into the paint so you got a kind of tide line of black. Anyone confirm this?

Gavin you are right. The wheel was dipped in the paint, back side first. So if you see a rim with the spokes and rim blacked to a different level it is not original. Of course the whole of the back of the rim gets painted to apart from an air bubble behind each spoke

Well i never!

So Miggs all you need now is a 20 gallon drum, 20 gallons of etch primer, 20 gallons of Wurth Satin Black and a steady hand! [;)]

Now I bet you thought that Jasmine, who charge something in the region of £200 to restore one rim, would do this correctly. Have a close look at their rims at Eynsham.

i always wondered how they done it now i know

dont think i will be going down that road tho will do it myself sl lets see how good i can do them[;)]

while on the subject of wheels - anyone know what a ballpark figure for having steel wheels rechromed would be?

Fraser

Fraser, the cost would imho be prohibitive and prob more than the cost of a new repro set.
You could go the powder coated route?

I know someone who will have some billet aluminium ones soon but we are talking ££££
