Where will the lunacy end .........

Surely its not only me sitting on the side lines watching the utter lunacy take place that is current Porsche prices .....this is restricted very specific models as we know but my god the pricing is fierce beyond belief and shows no sign of abating. Here is a case in point - a car that JZM are currently offering :
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Porsche 964 RS Touring £174,900

This is an incredibly rare, 1 of only seven of a planned 20 UK supplied 964 RS Touring cars that will prove hard to do justice from this advertisement alone
The vehicle is presented in superb original condition all original panels and its supplied with a wonderful file that includes the original bill of sale and all correspondence at the time.

Early viewing would be highly recommended as we have a sneaking suspicion it won't be about for too long "

I appreciate its rare .... but £175 grand !!!!

Will the bubble burst ??? ............its happened before ....is it just me ?

Great if your selling , sh1t if youre buying !

Rant over ........on with realistic buisness now ..................

It will end as it always does and there will be many who will be caught out too.

Like all things economic with supply and demand there is always a cycle of time of peaks and troughs.

If we all new when to buy and sell we would be very rich!!

Hi Peter,

There speaks the voice of experience ...... I'm glad I'm not alone in witnessing the current madness. It beggars belief what people are willing to spend on certain cars at present and I suppose the dealers will keep throwing ludicrous prices out there as long as people are willing to cough up. Very interesting to watch what happens over the next six months.

Cheers
Barry

I quite fancy a 964 for my next Porsche. But I'll wait till the bubble bursts and pick one up for a fraction of what they are now.

Are they really that expensive now? C2 manual coupe sold the other day for £20k........top money is £30-35k. When this bubble pops what do you think the prices will fall too? Do u really think they will drop to £5-10k or a "fraction of there current values" for a good car?

The RS above is sold......if it was overpriced it wouldn't sell would it?

I think the bubble will pop the same way it did in the early 90's. I personally don't think a 964 is worth much more than £15 k. It's not that long ago that they were the least loved of the 911 range. They will come back as more and more people buy cars that need loads of money spending on them. They are at an age now that they are falling into the rust zone. I'll bet there's loads of them running around with rotten sills etc hidden behind those sill covers. I'll wait and buy one that needs loads of work doing on the body.

There are a lot of cars which have been bought over the last few years where much of that work has been done. Buying a rusty dog will probably eat into any savings you make at purchase time. Why is a 964 worth not much more than 15k? I think supply of nice manual c2/c4 coupes which have had all major issues resolved will remain low and wont drop to £15k unless someone is desperate to sell. Only time will tell. I can't see it happening.

The big difference for me is that body work only costs me the price of the panels and my time. I'm not phased by rust or large amounts of welding.I think they will come back and a decent one will be back around the 10 - 15 mark in a couple of years.

Disagree but let's see. You will probably buy a rusty shed and claim that's "decent"

Lets put a pint on it then. Also unless you know someone you should never cast aspersions on their ability to buy or repair cars. Just saying.

The example quoted above 964RS Touring is one of seven cars made, it has a 964RS chassis number and a few creature comforts as opposed to the M002 Lightweights, which are the most common 964RS only about 2000 made.

Quoting a specific model and generalising is dangerous, the 964RS is like the 2,7RS probably the most desirable collectable Porsche still priced reasonably. Those in the Know, come back time after time to the 964RS, in the full philosophy of the Old Doctor, a car to be driven hard, used, club raced, and honed from granite, unbreakable and bullet proof, unlike the later offerings. The 964RS will out live any current day over optioned fly by wire speed machines.

Peter you have never driven one I guess, Friday 19th could be an opportunity ....[:)]

The lunacy will end next year when Ed Milliband becomes Prime Minister and slaps Capital Gains Tax on classic car sales.......

You are dreaming. The demand for air cooled is huge and there is no way that they are going to fall back to that level in the next few years. The cars have been snapped up and people are spending lots on having them restored. They are not going spend all that money and then give them away in the future. The enthusiasts have set the market themselves and will continue to look after it. The air cooled bargain boat sailed about 4 years ago.

A well respected trade buyer once said to me 'If you want to see which way the market is going follow the Ferrari 246 Dino' that will give you the lead as to whats going on in the market place. 'These cars lead and others follow' Well in the market not on the track!

Just took a look at one on PH

Its just over twelve years ago since one of these in good condition could be purchased for approx £60K[8|]
