wheres fab ??

Jacko, you seem to have a good idea of what you want from Porsche club membership, and you may hold the key to increased attendance from R 19 members. Explain some of your expectations or post some of the activites that would interest you, because historically, when previous R/Os ask for sugestions, the response isn't that great. I have seen the look of dissapointment on the faces of some R/Os who have racked thier brains for a new slant.

<snip>... at the end of the day other regions seem to be able to work out problems as and when they arrive ! - fab has just stopped and in all fairness he proberbly feels let down and is right to a degree on his actions but it does not help the members of the club and its gone on far too long - other regions have great activities of interest . ...<snip>

Is it okay if I call you Chris or Christopher rather than jacko [:D]

London region was the same early last year, the previous RO disappeared (long story and don't know the details and don't care as it is water under the bridge) and there was no RO for several months; so it happens elsewhere too. With the likes of you, Leslie, Craig, I see things picking up as soon as Chris Clark drops an official note following the board meeting.

All the best,
Kish Hirani

good views and points chaps !! thanks for your comments also . i have met and made some great friends via the club but myself and not forgetting CRAIG ! feel we have been pulled up short of expectations and speaking for myself am seriously thinking of not renewing again as it seems a waste of time to be honest ! the cornbury house is not something (once you been there) worth a visit again and from what i have seen from this region all im getting is a few cars on a lawn and a quick chat ,sandwich and thats it for a month !! ?? now lets see - ican do all this with out paying a fee ! oh yes as for a magazine theres plenty available in any good retailer ! - NO what the club on a whole needs is a sense of direction in what it actually means ,wants and gives to the members and as region organisers will know that not many members do actually tell them what they want so its those silent people that cant really complain ! i have chatted with fab ( long time ago !! ) whos fab !!????? and made suggestions of entertainment such as drives to bluewater shopping ( shop, chat food then drive home ) disco /meal nights ,drives to places of interest, why not work with kish and arrange a sunday meet at the aces !! imagine all those cars lined up - you know the list could go on we have a hotel here and special rates can be organised so a disco on a saturday and then all the cars on show would be great - safe secure venue its all there ! - i know many just want to look /talk about cars but as many more would proberbly like to witness other things and see some sort of a social calender . i have visited the goodwood festival of speed for many years , i even did some work there in 1999 ! it has really grown but all the club has to offer is there club truck to get you lured in to join - why not have a privaledge to us paying members ?? you know like accsess to special points or behind the scenes - theres so much and many points i could suggest and i know craig wants more driving experiences/oppourtunities as that is what porsches are for isnt it to DRIVE ? again i know many owners dont like to use their cars in winter -thats fine everyones different i dont like to sometimes -well thats when people can still come along to the meeting and do a different activity / talk bout problems e.t.c. - i see that the surrey region is having a disco on the thames on a boat in the summer again - great something different ! how ever and i sympathise to organisers THE CLUB IS WHAT THE MEMBERS MAKE IT ! thanks all keep your views coming and keep the porsches running [:D]

Empty spaces - what are we living for?
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score..
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are looking for?

Another hero - another mindless crime.
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime.
Hold the line!
Does anybody want to take it anymore?
The Show must go on!
The Show must go on!
Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up may be flaking,
But my smile, still, stays on!

Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance.
Another heartache - another failed romance.
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess i'm learning
I must be warmer now..
I'll soon be turning round the corner now.
Outside the dawn is breaking,
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free!

The Show must go on!
The Show must go on! Yeah!
Ooh! Inside my heart is breaking!
My make-up may be flaking!
But my smile, still, stays on!
Yeah! oh oh oh

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies,
Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die,
I can fly, my friends!

The Show must go on! Yeah!
The Show must go on!
I'll face it with a grin!
I'm never giving in!
On with the show!

I'll top the bill!
I'll overkill!
I have to find the will to carry on!
On with the,
On with the show!

The Show must go on.

from what i have seen from this region all im getting is a few cars on a lawn and a quick chat ,sandwich and thats it for a month !! ?? now lets see - ican do all this with out paying a fee !

Sorry, I'm confused.

John, it ain't that confusing. Jacko's point is that whilst it is indeed a pleasant place to compare cars, imbibe, and talk Porsche (as well as other high-brow subjects such as global warming etc if I recall from last time!), if that's all the club is about then it's not a convincing enough reason to cough up the membership fees each year. Support the meeting by all means, but surely it's also an opportunity to find out what else is going on, and plan other activities?

If there is enthusiasm in the region to do more, (and there's at least the chaps who've responded above) then maybe others want to aswell but have their own reasons (like they don't do forums, or they're happy to go with the flow) why they haven't said anything much.

Sorry, I'm confused.

I think I've got it: Someone somewhere shouts at us then says we need to support the venue so that other guests will have something to talk about. Err, is that right []

Ok Craig, I see what Jacko is getting at now. Expectation is high, reality less than perfect. We do have a good monthly venues, however for some members, that is not sufficient to convince them to renew thier membership.
It looks like whoever follows in Fab's footsteps is going to have their work cut out doesn't it?

Yep John - dead right about having their work cut out! But I'm sure they can also expect some active support too.

i agree craig - its up to the members to speak up to disscuss what they want to happen within the club and forward ideas ,the ideas if need be can then go to the board for inspection /assistance . its hard to believe this region is the biggest when the most i have seen turn out is about 18 cars ! if you look in the porsche post you will see lots of events and activities just look at surrey /london . i dont understand the confusion with some of you im simply pointing out the obvious factors [8|] - Just to get back to the main point of this thread , i would expect that we will know soon ( this week or issue of pp ) the outcome of fab and would imagine before anyone jumps the gun and assumes we need a new leader ! that Leslie kett will be moved from assistant to organiser if he is happy and willing to do so . THANKS TO ALL THE VIEWS KEEP EM COMIN !! [:D]

-Just looking back on the "confusion " issue - im making my view and experiences of the club so far ! its a valid point on reflection of whats gone on the past 8 months !
to sum things up all i want to see is a BIG turnout and EVERYONE HAPPY !! the whole point of this thread is /has been to give everyone a chance to air their views, points and opinions and judging by the hits its working but those staying silent please have your say - regards

I have only ever been to one regional meeting and for various reasons decided that it wasnt for me. However, I did go to the Annual concours and thought it was an excellent event. It helped that it was only 10mins up the road from me but my little boy had a great time and that was enough for me.

I also went to the first meeting at OPC Reading, again, I thought it was a great success so I have never complained about the reginal events but have never really bothered to lend a hand or make suggestions ether.

Its already been said but if people want more for their subscription they need to get involved instead of being like me and going along with the crowd.

Hi Chris - Got anything you can tell us yet?

Hi Craig and everyone,
Please expect a post from Chris Clark any time now but definitely before your Sunday meet which I am hoping to come along to i.e. if you guys are still around till late (as mentioned to jacko via PM). I am meeting up with a mate of my from States for lunch on Sunday (which I cannot cancel as he is on transit for a day in London) but will try and get out to your meet there after...

Kind regards,
Kish

PS: BT has still not opened the world of broadband in Chris Clark's corner of the Britain, so as you can understand keeping up with forum post etc is not that easy with his modem line which crashes every time someone emails a picture file which is greater than a couple of bytes... but that is not the excuse for no official note as yet.

Hi Kish - Thanks for the update. I remember all too well the hell of life pre-broadband...

Unfortunately I won't be around for the meeting this coming Sunday (great timing, huh?) but I'll keep an eye out for Chris's update

Cheers, Craig
