Where's My Car?

I know its not fare but;
[:)]I told you so!!![:)]
I have not bugged [X(]my dealer as I still have my yello one but::
the date I have been given now is 12/06/04 delivery to dealer as the car is now built and on a rowing boat via china.[&o]
I'm only getting a 2.7 boxta tiptronic
not a 550. ( can't afford one)
so I might get mine before you two!!

And to add insult to injury, I've now found out that Mann Island Porsche might be closing as their plan for a new location has been turned down.

Yes, I know I'm pestering them but I did ask when I placed the order when a May build car would arrive - told ''you'll be in it mid June latest.'', and hence previous car sold in line with 'infered' timings.

Well, OPC didn't ring me back yesterday, so rang agin today - ''waiting for reply from Reading but on holiday''

So in the end rang a number I found for customer services 0118 916 5190, and spoke to Jo.

Apart from having to contact my OPC for the order number (I only have stock no.), no problems with pursuing my inquiry. Within two hours Jo rang back with all the details:-

'car has slipped back in production schedule for some reason, but will be at checkpoint 8 next Wed (ie built and ready to leave factory). Ferry sailing is the Friday, so should catch that and be in UK docks next weekend. If misses ferry, then next one is the following wednesday. Car will be at OPC within 14 days of build date for sure''

Top marks to Jo - pity the OPC couldn't tell me this - they haven't replied to me today either !!.

As I see it, won't be any loss if Porsche pull out of Liverpool, they don't deserve the dealership.

good news for a change [:)]
less than 3 weeks to go, that's 504 hours and counting [8D]
do you think your OPC are aware that they too could have provided you with this info []
rant mode in advance of w/e
Andrew

Hey
you could have yours before mine[&o]
like yours mine is built (25th may) but now seems to have fallen out of the system[:(]spoke to dealer today who could only confirm it was "in transit" - something to do with poor ICT systems
may have to phone Porsche HQ tomorrow as I have changed insurance details (in readiness for the anticipated delivery of 11th) and will need to reinstate my existing vehicle details so could do with some idea as to what's happened
one consolation? - might get an insurance credit as had to pay an extra ÂŁ40 for the new car[:-]
what did you sayabout rowing boats to China!!!
Andrew

Porsche changed their systems last year. One of the supposed benefits was to allow for better reporting of the build and delivery cycle. Seems that not much has changed. My 'S' was built/delivered during this computer change over phase amd it was a nightmare trying to find out where the bleedin' car was! []

Can't understand why, in these days of web and technology, that a customer is not assigned a unique UserId and Password onto a special "extranet" into their system to allow customers to track the progress of their order and delivery. It really is not that difficult. (I used to work for a company that could do this stuff). Would really help with customer service. Would save frustrated customers a lot of hassle.

thanks I need it!!
latest update - here I am 18:50 hours Wed 9th June, have been told that the car is expected at the OPC Friday 11th but at this stage they cannot guarantee whether or not it will be delivered [:(] - (I kid you not)
first thing tomorrow I shall be calling Porsche GB/UK customer services or whatever it calls itself and ask yes or no and if not WHEN!
my only conclusion as to why the OPC doesn't do this on behalf of the customer is that they would spend all day on the phone to Porsche GB/UK trying to confirm delivery details, as I was reminded again that their computer system does not allow this level of interrogation!
I am still finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact that with only 1 and a bit days to go, delivery still cannot be confirmed.
Perhaps if Mr Goss or one of his staff read this forum they can do something in the future about this sorry state of affairs
Andrew

Andrew,

We have just been offered a date to meet the Marketing Director, at end June, and I will mention this, but I am sure they will tell me the good reasons why things are the way they are.
Very frustrating for you! I rememember how I felt just before mine was delivered.

cheers Nic
I'd be interested to know if there are any good reasons!
I shall phone customer services tomorrow; I require some certainty over delivery and would expect someone at Porsche GB to know whether or not my car will be at the OPC on friday!
life goes on; can't spend all of my time waiting to see what Porsche are up to (as I keep being reminded [;)] )
Andrew

Update 11/6/04
rang Porsche GB Customer Services; they have been able to give me a collection date (confirmed with OPC this morning) of 15/6 (next Tuesday)
in my view it was well worth phoning Porsche GB customer services as they seemed to have much better access to the vehicle delivery team/schedules than the OPC. I have genuine faith in what I have been told. Top marks to Brian from Porsche GB Customer Services, he told me what he was going to do and did just that including phoning me back at the agreed time[:)]

Nic,
good to see that we are at least getting a hearing (or is that an audience?)

Suggest Porsche take a look at BMWs tracking system - my dealer gave me twice weekly updates during the build and transport periods - every time the car moved I was informed. And this was the same for the five cars I bought there over the years.

Don't even get the courtesy of a return call from my OPC. What happened to 'customer is king' ?

David,

to be fair, Geoff Turral is very enthusiastic toward the Club, just very busy - Motor Show, product launches etc

I want to push the win/win of using the available focus group of enthusiastic owners and continual buyers, look at me - four new Porsches in eight years.

BUT we need to be looked after, not taken for granted.

We buyers of modern cars also often have an interwined interest with owning and/or loving the older models and heritage.

btw, this view is held at PAG, thats why they support the Clubs so much

No offence intended Nic,

I'm sure there are plenty of enthusiasts within Porsche themselves, and at the end of the day they do support the club.

But when all's said and done, they should also be listening to the club members, especially since we:-
1. represent the enthusiastic element of Boxster (and other model) owners,
2. should be more constructive in our suggestions and criticisms, and
3. be more tolerant of Porsche' decisions than some other people.

Most owners seem to be aggrieved by poor customer service. Surely the club represents an opportunity for free feedback, which we would hope PGB review and action accordingly (ie win/win [:D])

Perhaps I expect too much from my dealer, but I'm only asking for what I'm used to from BMW and MB (and people say they've got worse over the years!). Perhaps aslo the internet is making things worse, by providing more opportunity for one or two bad exeriences to become taken as the norm ??

Many thanks for your efforts and support - it is appreciated ! - good luck with the meeting.

Thats what I meant, They should listen to us. But spreading the "they" from Porsche Cars GB to the OPCs is another matter

I will report back after the meeting

The date they gave me was 12/06/04 and it came earlier so I picked it up on the 4th .
I have now done 350 miles.

[:D]I GOT IT!!!!![:D]

# 1606, collected this afternoon from Reading OPC immediately on return from holiday / Porsche Parade.

Overall, I was disappointed with the collection process - it didn't feel like the special event it should have been. This is my 1st brand new Porcshe and to me cost a heck of a lot of money but salesman showed little interest or rapport. His attitude seemed to be give me the money and bu88er off as quickly as possible. Having said that I shouldn't be surprised, as the dealership has exactly been forthcoming throughout the whole buying process (whereas Porsche GB customer service were very good). Anyway, I've got the car now and that's the main thing. It will be on display at the Yorkshire regional concours at Harewoood tomorrow.

Those of you still waiting have my sympathy, especially where you OPC are, shall we say, less than understanding. I hope you do better than I did with the freebies. All I got was a bottle of champagne, no umbrella, mugs, caps, flowers for the Mrs or anything else. Unfortunately, this again typified the OPC's attitude. We were given a magnum of champagne on Porsche Parade (further posts about this event later, when I've had chance to draw breath), for no apparent reason, so another bottle isn't that much use to us.

Ian
congrats! will we see some piccies!! other than the buying experience is the car as good as you had hoped it would be?
looking forward to picking up mine on Tuesday
Andrew
PS a common theme from this thread does seem to be the quality of customer service from Porsche GB itself, alas almost always on the back of insufficient information being received by the customer from OPC's. However might be that investment in technology is required by Porsche for the OPC's so that all are on a level playing field (so to speak)

here we go again!

Congratulations Ian, hope the car is everything you hoped, even if the service spoilt the procedings. Never mind, a brisk 100 mile drive and it'll all be forgotten. You can always use the champagne to wash the wheels if its that unimportant to you [:D]
