Which car for track days?

Lee, have you considered a LHD 964? You can get one for 10-12K, spend some money on suspension (new shocks, lowered springs, solid shock mounts), LWF, take out all the heavy bits, good set of tyres, you'll have a half decent track car that you can drive to the track and back. Later on if and when funds allow you can increase the engine power somehow, either chips, exhaust or go the whole hog with 9M specials.

I hadn't but this seems like a really interesting idea. I love the 964 shape (well I would do owning a 993) but thought they would be well out of my league. Have you any suggestions where one might search for a left hooker other than the usual independents?

but seriously there is always a good supply (oddly) of LHD 911's out there of all years from all sources but I've always found that the best are actually held privately, where you really find the best and the deals...........worth the hunt !

Check the ususal Porsche sites, cars that are sold by enthusiasts and you might just find one that already has the suspension done. eg, here, Pistonheads, 911uk.com etc, failing that Autotrader for a unmodded one to work on..
There should be plenty of LHD 964s about, get a C2, sort out the suspension, strip it out, change the seats and you're not far off a 964 RS! Jamie (not sure if he posts here) did just that and he has a cracking track car!
 
best non-varioram LHD car I know is that of Mick Summer, sorted handling with all the right bits, so good to go from the word go...... worth sending him a email to see if he's still thinking of selling it..... [:D]



 
hee hee hee, thank matey, was thinking of selling it this yr and wait for an RS but decided I just can't go on without a 993 of sort. So I think I'll wait till I do get my RS (prob mid next yr) and then sell the C2.

Seriously though, I've done as much as I can for now to the suspension, bit by bit as things needed replacing. Not too aggressive set up so didn't go for the PSS9. Haven't done the wt loss programm yet but I'll leave that to the next owner. Didn't do anything to the engine 'cos I wanted to concentrate on maximising the handling first before adding power. If I was to keep the car, then the next on the list would be RS anti-roll bars, LWF when clutch needs changing, then start wt loss program. Only then I'd start thinking about engine mods.

So Lee, if you can get hold of a half decent LHD 964, then you could do something similar and turn it into a near enough 964 RS for track fun.The 964/993 with good suspension is great on the track even with standard brakes and engine.
 
Tell the CEO who's holding my wallet![:eek:] I have to provide proof that mortgage and school fees X2 till they both in uni are all taken care of before I can even think about my RS!![:(]

Definitely sounds like the sensible route. Modified to be better but not completely wrecked.
