Stone chips don't bother me
Me neither, as they show that the car is used in the true sense of what it was built for. Slightly off topic, but I think it´s a nice idea to keep a car for a long time, have it in good shape all the time but use it, use it, use it.... It will develop a nice what we call "patina" (hope that word is used in English, too).
When I see (e. g. at a vintage car event) one of those fab Bentleys from the 30s which has been used for decades and shows it´s scars and chips and paint burnt by the exhaust.... that´s amazing, way more exciting than a better than new garage girlie queen.
In addition to that an RS that shows what she has done in her life is a great car. Colour is for sure important, but an RS is a character. So an RS in any typical RS colour - no matter which one - and with some "wrinkles of life", technically in good shape, always ready to RUN, waiting for me.... that´s a car.
An RS garage queen - also no matter which colour - is like Steve McQueen having lost his bow fingers....
Regards,
Hacki
P.S.: Off topic, I know

I would always buy a car on the basis of what it is rather than its colour...I mean who the hell would choose a car painted in calf shite yellow for god sake? (me!?).
Stone chips don't bother me because eventually the car will have a new colour!
Mat missing the point .... THIS A BRAND NEW BUILD FROM BARE METAL ..........What colour would you like sir!

I think there is good room for both. I like you want a car I can use, not be too scared of, and whilst it isnt perfect, is still pretty (at least at 10yards). However, I love to see the concours garage queens, and marvel at people that polish under the wheel arches, and see the cars that have done 40km in 20 years etc. The reason why? well they show me what my car should ahve looked like when it left the factory, it gives me a point of reference.
Even further off topic, did anyone see Porsche 911 world this month? The white 964C4 LWT that has gone barely anywhere? What a car!

I didn't know this colour existed , was not on the radar until August 2008 , its contemporary with Viper Green , Blood Orange/Tangerine , and after due deliberation against Maritime Blue which is the sounding board of desirable 964RS colours .........the heart says Bahama Yellow . Can be seen at Goodwood July 8 on a 40 year old 911E .
I do not intend to respray the black 964RS , its just my choice for a new build , and a bit different to the retro big-bum 997GT3RS's in flymo orange or kermit green that block the way in the twisty bits.
Hacki, Patina is exactly the same word here, I remember the Metallic Coral Red car was a sightly deeper colour in the door shuts than it was on the exposed surfaces, and that looked just great to my eyes.

Did anyone mention 'patina' at your recent birthday Hacki?
Nope, my friends are basicly like myself - graveyardblond and way beyond the status of "patina"![]
Dear me, I always thought alcohol preserves.... probably I have to try harder![]
Ah, "patina", let´s see what your marriage will do to you, mate!

Good job you did the Euro trip while you could Rich..because now the party is OVER!!![]
Deffo no trackdays for Rich now!
Nah, we've been together for 17 years already. I can't see too much changing - apart from the MASSIVE hole in my bank balance this year. []
I won't tell you how much this wedding is costing, but I weep every time I look through the classifieds in the back of P&911 World. []

Have the bare metal 'brushed' then painted in clear lacquer! (similar the the stainless steel De Lorean) That would be different!
I like 964's in all sorts of colours but if it was mine I think it would be either black or a very dark colour that's close to black... I once had a Marcos Mantis LM500 on loan from the factory for a few weeks. They used to offer a service of painting their cars whatever colour the customer wanted - they would match anything. This particular car had originally been ordered by a customer who subsequently backed out of having it so it became a factory demonstrator. When he ordered it the guy had walked in with an Aubergine in his hand and said he wanted it that colour. And that's what they did! They matched the colour exactly and then applied it with a couple of layers of the base colour, then they gradually layered it up with an ever decreasing mix of colour and lacquer until the top coat was 100% lacquer, so when it was finally polished it looked like liquid - it gave the impression you could put your hand into it!
