Which is best?

I really dont think that's available for £70k. It's already 14% off the list price when spec'd with the options. You're suggesting a discount of 20% is achievable on a 4 month old car and further that the prices will drop to £50k 'soon' which translates to a 40% discount against new. I called numerous dealers btw, and still have not seen my deal beaten.

I appreciated the good advice received before I bought mine (actually on pistonheads) but there's some real drivel spoken about here. It's like people wish the residuals of cars down way beyond realistic levels.

OP - back on topic, I was in exactly the same position as you twelve months ago. I drove both the 2 and the 4, courtesy of Tonbridge OPC and eventually bought a 4 although I bought it privately, albeit i had it inspected and got the owner to extend the Porsche warranty. My rationale was that I wanted something i could use all year, including some early morning trips to the airport in wet weather etc and I found the 4 more planted. I guess as a first Porsche the C4S just seemed easier to drive. I had the alignent done at Centre Gravity after buying it and it felt even better. I put winter tyres on and during the snow it was amazing.

Mine is a manual as I didnt like the tip and couldnt afford a pdk. Having had a pdk cayman while mine was in for service and having driven a pdk C4S in Finland I would def have a pdk next time. In terms of spec there are some things I would def want. I had the switchable Porsche Sports Exhaust retro fitted but love it - the car now sounds like a Porsche should. The Sports Chrono is worth having in a pdk - it isnt really in a manual (IMHO). I also have a sun roof so I can hear the PSE! I wouldnt worry about Bose or Nav as the old Nav isnt anything to write home about - my £150 tomtom us better (although the touchsreen Nav PCM3 is much improved). If I can help further in your purchase then feel free to PM me and we can have a chat. I had a long discussion with Mark Pearce at Stirlings when looking to buy a car and found him extremely helpful.I'd happily return the favour.

Andrew

ps - join the club if you buy one!

Sorry for the earlier rant, and now back on topic!

I'd echo Andrew's comments. It really depends on your intended use as much as your experience test driving the cars.

I would say that I've been amazed at just howmuch grip the 2WD cars have at the back. Having now driven them in anger on a track they are nowhere near as nervous as the rear as I'd feared, and on public roads it would be almost I possible to lose grip whilst within legal limits. You'd really have to be doing something pretty stupid.

Lots of people have commented about long test drives on the forums, so I'm quite sure it's possible.

And do join the club, if for no other reason than to receive good advice and benefit from 10% off parts and labour at most OPC's.

Good luck !

No need to get shirty. You've bought a car and are happy so what's the problem?

You asked on 2 occasions here where you might buy a GTS for £70K. Here's another possibility GTS for less £76K - that's 2 at mid 70's and I haven't moved from my couch. [:)]

If I had £70k cash and wanted one, I'm confident I could buy one now. [;)]

I've already said I've no idea what will happen later - but neither have you. [8|]

With launch of 991 in Autumn, who knows? A GTS in the 50's by end of year is a possibility.

The options for John are to wait and see or buy a C2S PDK now.

Clive

Not getting 'shirty'. Just prefer to speak in the absolute and base my postings on facts, rather than endless speculation. Still waiting to see one for 70k.

Hi John,

OPC Cambridge are not too far away & I cannot praise their Customer Service highly enough, seriously worth a visit.

Also, have you looked at Dove House Motors in Rushden?
They are an Independent Specialist with high qaulity vehicles & have recently opened their own servicing department.

Ask for Warren Mead, he sourced my '04 996 C4S for me & has excellent knowledge of Porsche.

I live at Brackley and found Silverstone a bit stuffy.[:-] I then went to OPC Sutton Coalfield and have since bought 2 911's.
Ask for Gary Pugh - found him very helpful. Tell him its on recommendation. You should be able to get there within an hour.
Good Luck
Jon

Couldn't get the (white) GTS out of my head and don;t want to buy the 'wrong' 997 so I pushed OPC in Leicester for a proper, long back to back test drive. They could only let me in a C4S for a supervised drive as they had no demo - so they set me up to drive the C4S PDK and the GTS PDK at Silverstone Porsche driving experience today. Where they were both really nice, the GTS was simply fabulous. I didn't think I could drive that quick and hold a 911 flat out through bends (in any given gear), but I actually noticed the difference in power between them and after doing 10 or 12 laps in the GTS the C4S seemed (dare I say it) slightly wallowy at the rear and much less direct. Unfortunately, all this means is that I am back to square 1 as it must be a GTS for me now. The PCP deal on the C4S is really good making the PCP on the GTS much more expensive, but I would hate to buy a C4S and then be hankering after a GTS.

If it's "direct" you are after, try a GT3 around same track and then decide [;)]

Unfortunately, most modern Porsches seem to suffer quite heavy depreciation so better to buy the one you REALLY want now instead of finding out later and suffering two lots of it [:(]

I can vouch that the GTS is worth waiting for [:D] but I hope, selfishly, that they are not 50k in 6 months []

[:D] thats why i bought a second hand GTS 6 months old and already over £20k below list price.

They're getting there and 3 months still to go! Anyone with cash? [:)]
