White smoke on start up

I have asked for pics of the rust and inside the vents that he has, he said he will get them to me before the weekend so will post them as soon as i hear back. I can't seem to find any pics of the car though, i've looked on both the other ebay auctions from 2011 and the pictures don't show.

He does seem like a decent guy though so i should get my deposit back if the car does look rough

I have just read this post and I think you will be very lucky if the sills are ok , inside around rear suspension mount etc., They all rust eventually !
I saw a 924 today which looked great from outside but when looked at through door vents could see daylight and you could poke finger through from underneath.
Get it up on a ramp with someone who knows 944's and a poking stick.

By all means go and see it buy don't be surprised if it is a bit rough round the edges ...

As said, if it isn't as described, you can ask for your money back. Before kI bought mine I was ready to travel to Cornwall to view a good one which I had received lots of pics of ... So as you know, sometimes you have to travel for the right car.

Quick update, the owner has been busy at work and hasn't been able to find his old pics or take new ones due to rain/getting dark when he's back from work etc but has told me to take my time tomorrow, go over the car and get pics of everywhere so i will post them up when i take them tomorrow around lunchtime if anyone's up and on the forum

Will try take as many as possible and hopefully get some replies before handing over cash. Will also be looking around all of the underside too and giving bits a tap hopefully everything sounds solid.. Is there anything to look for in particular as to whether the sills are rotten inside apart from bubbling/surface rust?

Thanks again for all the help so far!

It's all a judgement call: unless the sills are perfect (unlikely), or completely shot (as in full of holes, chicken wire and filler), you have any number of degrees of corrosion. It also depends what you want from the car: as we've already said you could buy a rotten one and run it for a year, or you might want a concourse example.

I suppose the best advice would be to see some member's cars for a guide, but I think you need to use a bit of instinct when looking inside the sills. If it looks really bad, it probably is! Expect to see light surface rust inside, not daylight and your own feet....

On the other hand, mine was actually worse on the outside of the sills, very unusually. I'd usually say run a mile from a car that showed corrosion on the outside, so there's no hard and fast rules. [&o]

This was the outside of mine, I expected new inner sill as well as outer from this:

In fact it was very sound inside, and only needed a local repair.

Look for rust around the rear trailing arm mounts - inside of the rear of the sills, that is becoming the killer bit now!

I decided to start up a project thread as i could carry on rambling on in this one and taking it off topic lol

Decided to go for the car :) was happy with what i was paying and the level of rust i found (have added pics in to the new thread) also the previous owner was a gent, even bought a brand new battery just to ensure my 4 hour journey home! He put half a tank of fuel in and was showing me all sorts of receipts for money he had spent (even giving his mechanic a £1500 budget to 'do what was needed to make her reliable' which he came to £1370)

Thanks again for all the hope so far, really looking forward to getting stuck in and bringing it back to former glory!
